    Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ARCHITECT/ENGINEER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1551000 and is part of the TN 134th ARW Air National Guard. Responsibilities As an ARCHITECT/ENGINEER, GS-0808-12, you will exercise authority in planning, directing, controlling and coordinating architectural or engineering activities; utilize program and planning documents in determining real property facility requirements for programmed units and activities within the installation; represent the Base Architect/Engineer at meetings and conferences with HQ ANG and intermediate command staff, Commanders and staff representatives of tenant organizations, Division and District Engineer representatives of the Corps of Engineers and Naval Facilities Engineering Command, metropolitan airports commission staff; FAA, Veterans Administration, highway department representatives; Federal, states, and city Environmental Protection Agency representatives; determine operational trends and forecast requirements; provide technical instructions and information on architectural, engineering and other technical requirements and assign phases of projects to subordinate architects, engineers, engineering technicians, and draftsmen; establish technical engineering and architectural processes, criteria, and functions; through subordinate supervisors, direct approximately twenty-five or more civilian and military employees engaged in readiness, Crash-Fire-Rescue engineering design, explosive ordnance disposal engineering, and operational facility maintenance duties and is responsible for providing training and facilities for the OJT and proficiency training of approximately 100 drill status officers and airmen; develop and maintain effective engineering staff relationships with base and tenant organizations; performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: O-1 through O-4 Compatible Military Assignments: 32E3G This is an interdisciplinary architect or engineer position. The nature of the work is common to the architecture or several engineering disciplines. The duties assigned to this position can be classified in either of the following architecture or engineering occupational series: General Engineering, GS-801 (this includes Architectural and Construction Engineering); Architecture, GS-808; Civil Engineering, GS-810; Environmental Engineering, GS-819; Mechanical Engineering, GS-830; Electrical Engineering, GS-850. The position may be filled with an incumbent qualified in any of the above occupational series. The position will be classified to the occupational series of the incumbent selected at the time that the position is filled. 1. General Experience: degree in architecture; or related field that includes 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1). 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. OR 2. Combination of Education and Experience: college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1). Related Curriculum: Degree in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in paragraph A. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering cover's function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. The courses required for a degree in architecture generally place emphasis upon planning, esthetics, and materials and methods of construction, while the courses for an architectural engineering degree place equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. Because of this difference in emphasis, persons with degrees in architecture may have a preference for work assignments that offer greater opportunities for them to express their artistic and creative abilities. As a result, they may be more concerned with planning and design aspects of architecture, and persons with degrees in architectural engineering may be more engaged in aspects emphasizing technical engineering considerations. (2). Experience: An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have had 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of (GS-11) or 36 months specialized experience which includes professional architectural or engineering knowledge in the areas of civil, mechanical, electrical, facility, environmental, fire protection, architectural, military contingency, plant facility and construction engineering disciplines and architecture; responsible for projects beginning with site proposals and plans through final construction and occupation by users. Education Education Requirement: Degree: degree in architecture; or related field that includes 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1). 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2). 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. OR Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. You MUST provide copy of official transcripts that includes degree awarded and date conferred to support your educational claims. To receive credit for education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the education requirements for this position.
