Dr. Bijan Najafi’s renowned research team at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge studies in remote patient monitoring, frailty, dementia, and wearable technologies designed to empower older adults to live independently and age in place.

    About the Role:

    We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have expertise or familiarity in:

     

    • Wearable technologies for human motion analysis

    • Motion tracking systems

    • Gait and balance assessments

    • Muscle activity monitoring and motor disability evaluation

    At UCLA’s Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology (CASIT), our interdisciplinary team is committed to enhancing the quality of life for older adults. We integrate cutting-edge digital health technologies, such as wearable sensors and remote monitoring systems, to:

     

    • Assess and mitigate risks associated with frailty and cognitive decline

    • Support recovery post-hospital discharge and post-surgery

    • Address chronic conditions like diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases

     

    Our recent projects include developing wearable sensors for functional mobility evaluation, personalizing care coordination for home-based care, and exploring interventions to enhance balance and alleviate pain and fatigue. By leveraging these technologies, we aim to empower older adults to maintain independence and well-being in the comfort of their homes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design and implement studies focused on remote patient monitoring and wearable technologies

    • Collect, analyze, and interpret complex datasets

    • Conduct literature reviews and prepare manuscripts and grant proposals

    • Mentor and supervise students and new postdoctoral trainees

    • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, engineers, and researchers

    • Assist in training personnel on the use of wearable technologies and data analysis
