CTG's premier client has a contract assignment for an IT Controls Engineer.
**Type:** Contract
**Job Title:** IT Controls Engineer
**Location:** Wilmington, NC
_Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Wilmington, NC_
**Pay Rate:** Based on experience
**Work Hours:** M–F, 8am–5pm
**Education:** Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
A successful candidate in this position will possess strong soft skills as well as
+ Computer programming skills – C/C++/C#, Visual Basic 6, VB.Net, iFIX/SCADA (or any industrial Automation system), PowerShell scripting
+ Ability/Experience integrating computers into manufacturing processes to increase efficiencies and lower cost.
+ Ability/experience troubleshooting simple low voltage electrical circuitry.
+ Knowledge/experience of relational databases (Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server), MSMQ and XML
+ Willing to be on off hours call on a rotational basis.
+ Windows PC Imaging – Create and update reusable Windows 10/11 images for industrial control systems, including multi-language support, and optimized for 24x7 manufacturing with appropriate cyber security
+ OSI PI Data Historian, PI Asset Framework, and PI Vision - Administration and Support
Description
• This position will be responsible for owning the IT-related software associated with at least one manufacturing process step in the Optical Fiber manufacturing plant
• The IT Controls Engineer will closely collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement improvements in their assigned process area
• The role includes becoming the technical expert in the assigned process controls system and ancillary systems that support manufacturing execution and reporting
• The engineer may also lead software development for web-based or stand-alone applications supporting plant operations
• When leading a project, the engineer will manage activities to meet objectives within budget and timeline constraints
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
• Assist engineers in providing production support and troubleshooting for 24/7 manufacturing operations
• Ensure reliable equipment operation via automated control systems and user interfaces
• Support process and product optimization/improvement initiatives
• Develop and implement innovative technical solutions
• Provide training to engineers and production associates as needed
• Lead or participate in capital improvement projects
• Serve on a rotating off-hours production support team (approximately every 5–6 weeks)
Required Skills
• Proficiency in computer programming: C/C++/C#, Visual Basic 6, VB.Net, iFIX/SCADA, PowerShell scripting
• Experience integrating computers into manufacturing to improve efficiency
• Troubleshooting of simple low-voltage electrical circuitry
• Knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server), MSMQ, XML
• Willingness to support production during off-hours on a rotational basis
Desired Skills
• Experience with Windows PC Imaging for industrial control systems (Windows 10/11)
• Administration and support of OSI PI Data Historian, PI Asset Framework, and PI Vision
Soft Skills
• Familiarity with MES (Camstar or other Manufacturing Execution Systems)
• Team-oriented mindset to support all IT control systems in the plant
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with engineering and operations teams
Education
• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
Years of Experience
• 5–10 years of experience
Additional Requirements
• Must be a United States Citizen or possess a valid Green Card
• Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
• Travel Requirements: Minimal to none (0–10%)
