    Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

    Major/Essential Functions:

    + Participate in the collaborative development and delivery of the pre-clerkship medical school curriculum (years 1-2), with an emphasis on curricular elements related to the teaching and assessment of health systems science

    + Participate in course administration and instruction for the pre-clerkship phase of the medical school curriculum

    + Collaborate with faculty members in other disciplines to develop and deliver an integrated curriculum that blends basic science, clinical science, and health systems science

    + Employ a variety of teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning

    + Provide formative and summative assessment of medical student performance

    + Provide individual support, feedback, and advice to medical students

    + Work closely with course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the educational program goals and objectives established by the School of Medicine

    + Engage in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship

    + Provide clinical service (when applicable) to the extent necessary to adequately support the teaching programs of the department

    + Contribute to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission

    + Serve the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties

    + Ensure compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations

    + Adhere to institutional policies and procedures

    + Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

    + Promote and uphold the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso

    Depending on individual goals and interests, and as negotiated with the Chair of the Department of Medical Education, the successful candidate may also have the opportunity to:

    + Serve as a 'college mentor' by providing one-on-one support, feedback, and advising to medical students assigned to one of the school's academic learning communities ('colleges')

    + Co-facilitate discussion-based sessions in the 'College Colloquium', a course devoted to topics such as medical ethics, controversies in medicine, evidence-based medicine, critical thinking, safety and quality improvement, communication, humanism, empathy, wellness, life-long learning, bias, leadership, and professionalism

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience developing and delivering an integrated medical curriculum

    + Experience with active learning methods, such as interactive large-and small-group formats, team based learning, case-based learning, and problem-based learning

    + Experience with curriculum management software systems

    + Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to medical education

    + Experience in medical education scholarship

    + Experience in the development of grant proposals and the management of extramural funding

    + Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher

    Required Qualifications:

    + PhD or equivalent degree in public health, health systems science, or a closely related discipline, or MD/DO or equivalent medical degree together with an MPH

    + Expertise/experience in teaching multiple curricular domains of health systems science such as:

    o Healthcare structures and processes

    o Systems thinking and complexity science

    o Value-based care

    o Quality improvement and patient safety

    o Population health and social determinants

    o Interprofessional teams and collaboration

    o Health informatics and technology

    o Leadership and change management

    o Evidence-based medicine and practice

    o Health policy, economics and advocacy

    + Evidence of scholarship in the field of expertise

    + Texas Medical License or eligibility for Texas Medical License for physician candidates

    + Board certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties for physician candidates
