    COMPENSATION

    Associate Railroad Signal Specialist I- $87,701- $110,444

     

    Associate Railroad Signal Specialist II- $96,619- $123,140

     

    Associate Railroad Signal Specialist III- $116,636- $137,501

    Responsibilities

    The incumbent under limited supervision, will perform signal design work of moderate difficulty, supervise the preparation of plans and specifications for new signal equipment for signaling systems and equipment repaired or alteration of signaling systems,

     

    inspect the installation of new technology train control systems or related advanced signals,

     

    or inspect the condition of railroad signal systems and prepare plans and procedures for maintenance of signal equipment during its useful life.

     

    Represent the subdivision at meetings with the Department of Construction & Development, Enterprise Asset Management, NYCT Law, all other MTA agencies, city agencies, contractors, and consultants.

     

    This position may require response to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and eight years of

     

    full-time satisfactory experience in: railroad power-operated signal engineering

    work; or in signal maintenance, circuit designing, manufacturing, or installation

    supervision. At least two years of this experience must have included specialized

    experience in:

    a) designing railroad signals of moderate difficulty; or

     

    b) supervising and inspecting the installation of railroad signals; or

     

    c) preparing plans and specifications for railroad signal equipment or systems;

     

    or

     

    2. Education in electrical technology, electrical engineering or a related field above

     

    the high school level may be substituted for the general experience described under

    "1" above at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year

    of experience up to the maximum of four years of experience. However, all

     

    candidates must have at least two years of the specialized experience described in

     

    "1 a, b, c" above

    SPECIAL NOTES:

    In addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements as set forth in "1" or "2"

    above:

    A. To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have at least one year

     

    of experience working in Assignment Level I or an additional year of the

     

    experience described under "1" above in the "Qualification Requirements".

     

    B. To be assigned to Assignment Level III, the candidate must have at least two years

     

    of experience working in Assignment Levels I or II and/or two additional years

     

    of the experience described under "1" in the "Qualification Requirements" above.

     

    Desired Skills

     

    + Basic software programming knowledge or experiences - to be able to learn and understand logic programming and basic logic functions, to be capable to understand a logic application to troubleshoot find a root cause analysis to a failure and to implement solution.

    + Have some familiarity of basic general conceptual understanding of modern microprocessor-based signals control systems such as Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) would be helpful.

    + Knowledge of using Computer Aided Design (CAD) related software such as Micro station or Spotlight software to modify design drawings would be helpful.

    + Ability to introduce innovative ideas, to monitor and determine potential signal troubles and contribute to finding solutions.

    + Strong knowledge of Windows software and applications

    + Strong written and verbal communication.

    + Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

    Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience and interview.

    OTHER INFORMATION

    Appointment may be at a comparable level to current level of selected candidate.

     

    As an employee of MTA NYC Transit, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the state of New York, if your position earns more than $101,379 (this is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
