Job Description
The Online Audio Support Technician provides vital operational, technical, and customer support for teaching faculty and distance learning students. This position is responsible for operational support, customer support, systems administrative responsibilities, and other technical projects related to the quality setup and delivery of Digital Learning’s online asynchronous educational recording environment. This position will support asynchronous recording studio booths, mediated classrooms, labs, and customizable learning spaces. Support service will include customer support, technical guideline creation and updates, research, scheduling, and technical troubleshooting and repair and equipment research and upgrades.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
+ Considerable knowledge and experience with audio equipment, audio software and audio theory which includes, Camtasia, Audacity, and Sound Forge, audio production mixers, microphones, VU meters, audio interface equipment.
+ Considerable knowledge of computer workstations and software.
+ Considerable knowledge on troubleshooting and resolving audio and computer issues.
+ Considerable knowledge of the operation of all systems and hardware used in the production and delivery of online distance education, including understanding of the operation of equipment such as audio/video monitors, characters generators, microphones, cameras, video control devices, audio production mixers, and understand the best practices of quality audio and video.
+ Working knowledge of computer networks (LANs and WANs) and computer workstations, video and audiotele conferencing software programs such as Zoom or Webex, , videoconferencing related equipment such as codecs and scheduling software, digital video encoders and servers, and associated telecommunication equipment used to produce live programs.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Working knowledge of, or ability to learn, the operational functionality of both Windows and Apple operating systems.
+ Working knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, and to proactively identify, communicate, and address technical issues.
+ Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with customers (instructors, presenters, and/or students), supervisors, staff, university administrators, faculty, Digital Learning technical support staff, and all external clients.
+ Ability to provide tier one support to end users, with the ability to walk them through initial set-up and technical problems.

Some experience working in higher education.
Conditions of Employment
Hourly (wage) employees are restricted to working 29 hours per week on average or 1500 hours in total in the May 1 – April 30 period. This position does not have health insurance, retirement or leave.
Position located on Norfolk Main Campus. Possibility of working some nights and/or weekends.
Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Salary commensurate with education and experience
