The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking to fill the current Fish Hatchery Manager 2 position at the Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery in Clark Fork. This announcement will be used to fill the current opening for Fish Hatchery Manager 2 at Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery, and it may also be used to fill future openings statewide.

General Information:
+ This announcement will be used to fill the current opening for Fish Hatchery Manager 2 at the Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery, and it may also be used to fill future statewide vacancies. If you wish to be considered for the current opening at the Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery, and/or any future statewide openings for Fish Hatchery Manager 2, you must apply under this announcement.
+ Incumbents are required to live on station.
+ Incumbents are expected to work a rotational on-call schedule.
+ Incumbents, with or without reasonable accommodations, must be capable of lifting and carrying 50+lbs. Work includes repetitive handling and feeding of fish, climbing on and off fish transport trucks, and standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift. These positions require working with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces. Work is conducted in all weather conditions. Irregular work schedules are frequent; weekend, holiday, and evening work are required.
Responsibilities:
+ Hatchery management - Typical responsibilities: hires and trains staff; assigns work and evaluates performance; develops and monitors budget; maintains records and prepares reports on hatchery operation; ensures inventories, equipment, and capital improvements are properly maintained; coordinates hatchery operation with other department functions; provides input on new hatchery designs; ensures safety requirements are met.
+ Aquaculture - Typical responsibilities: monitors fish development; develops feeding schedules needed for specified growth rates; observes fish for signs of disease or stress; develops and implements prophylactic and control measures for fish diseases; distributes fish to assigned planting areas.
+ Public relations - Typical responsibilities: meets with federal and state officials to establish priorities for fish production and coordinate research projects; makes presentations to interested groups and technical committees; conducts hatchery tours, explains operations, and answers questions.
Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.)
+ Experience supervising and evaluating performance of staff en gaged in a fish rearing operation. (Typically gained through at least one year of work experience performing the supervisory duties of a Fish Hatchery Assistant Manager, OR at least one year of work experience performing equivalent supervisory duties at a non-Departmental fish rearing facility.
+ Experience training others in various aspects of fish hatchery operation. (Typically gained through at least one year of work experience training various aspects of fish hatchery operations as a Fish Hatchery Assistant Manager, OR at least one year of work experience training various aspects of fish hatchery operations at a non-Departmental fish rearing facility.)
+ Experience developing and monitoring a budget. (Typically gained by at least one year of work experience which included recommending and monitoring a program budget.)
+ Experience recognizing abnormal behavior and disease symptoms of fish and implementing measures for disease control; identifying and determining nutritional and growth requirements of fish and calculating their feeding rates; spawning and stocking fish; and operating fish transport -type equipment. (Typically gained by at least two years of professional work experience that included recognizing abnormal behavior and disease symptoms of various fish and implementing measures for diseases control; identifying and determining nutritional and growth requirements of fish and calculating their feeding rates; spawning and stocking fish; and operating fish transport-type equipment.)
+ Valid driver's license.
Minimum Qualification Specialty Area: (The qualification below is required for some Fish Hatchery Manager 2 positions throughout the State.)
+ Some of the Fish Hatchery Manager 2 positions may require obtaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) before completion of the probationary period. The opening at the Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery does not require a CDL.
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience performing the duties of a Fish Hatchery Assistant Manager and assisting facility managers and/or bureau staff in the development and presentation of department material for public education or interagency coordination, or at least one year of experience performing equivalent duties in a non-department fisheries program. If you have relevant experience in the areas listed, please be sure to include it within your application material that you submit.
