- Bloomberg (Washington, DC)
-
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-starting reporter in Washington to cover a tumultuous time in the US legal system. This reporter will help drive Bloomberg News’ coverage at the intersection of criminal justice, business and politics, as the Trump administration shifts priorities and reshapes institutions.
You’ll be at the forefront of our coverage as we examine how policy shifts and political pressures are reshaping the rule of law, corporate legal strategy, and the justice system at large. The role demands an enterprising journalist who can pivot between breaking news and deeply reported enterprise pieces, while building trusted sources inside and outside government.
We'll expect you to:
+ Deliver authoritative, agenda-setting stories on legal and political developments affecting businesses, courts, and key players in Washington.
+ Dive into legal filings, court records, and regulatory decisions to uncover news and spot trends.
+ Collaborate across bureaus—including teams in New York, Europe, and beyond—to elevate the breadth and depth of our coverage.
+ Provide timely updates as well as long-form reporting that adds context and clarity to complex legal narratives.
+ Track and report on the Trump administration's ongoing legal influence and its interactions with the judiciary and major law firms.
You'll need to have:
+ A strong track record of breaking news and writing ambitious enterprise stories.
+ Deep familiarity with the U.S. legal system and institutions plus an instinct for the political dynamics that shape them.
+ Proven source-building skills and the ability to earn trust in competitive, high-stakes reporting environments.
+ The confidence and curiosity to pursue complex stories independently—and the flexibility to work closely with a collaborative, high-performing team.
+ Experience navigating legal databases and public records.
