Job Description

The Financial Representative reviews and analyzes accounts and billings to ensure accurate submissions to third party payors, identifies and reports billing issues, and works to resolve outstanding accounts

Qualifications

+ High School diploma/GED

+ Prior experience in a hospital based billing department. Good mathematical, organizational, analytical and communication skills; knowledge of third payor regulations and requirements.

Responsibilities

1. Analyzes accounts and billings to ensure accurate submissions to third party payors; makes corrections as needed

2. Updates insurance and/or patient information in the billing system

3. Posts pertinent memos as needed

4. Ensures payments and adjustments are posted properly; prepares refunds as needed

5. Telephones contacts to follow up on accounts in a professional manner

6. Answers all patient, third party and other departments requests or inquiries in an accurate and professional manner

7. Requests and utilizes medical records and/or other pertinent documents to verify patient accounts information

8. Identifies and reports billing issues and/or system problems in a timely manner to immediate supervisor for handling or resolution

9. Utilizes trial balance and other reports to identify and resolve outstanding accounts and bring to a final resolution

10. Compiles and prepares reports as required by management

11. Performs breakdowns (i.e., cash voucher, EOB mail lists) in a timely and accurate manner

12. Reconciles daily cash receipts and tape payment remittance

13. Determines appropriate general accounts postings

14. Maintains accurate filing and recordkeeping

15. Performs other tasks as assigned and needed

17. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information

18. Observes the Health Care Systems compliance policies

19. Participates in the development of other staff members

20. Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements

21. Identifies learning strengths and needs

22. Utilizes learning resources

D. Communication/Relationships

23. Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others

24. Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community

25. Adheres to Mount Sinai Health Systems legal and ethical standards

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $29.6049 - $32.0619 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
