    Job Title: HousingPeer Advocate

     

    Employment Type:Full-Time

    Job Summary:

    TheHousing Peer Advocateis an integral member of the FLACRA team, providing peer support services to individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. This role emphasizes mentorship, advocacy, and motivational support to help clients achieve long-term recovery. Additionally, the Housing Peer Advocate supports administrative functions, including Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data entry, while promoting recovery-focused outcomes.

    Must-Have Qualifications:

    + High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

    + Valid NYS Driver’s License with the ability to use a personal vehicle for client visits.

    + Lived experience with homelessness and substance use disorder and/or mental illness.

    + Willingness to participate in peer certification training, with the goal of obtaining CRPA-P certification within 4 months of employment.

    Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

    + Certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist (NYCPS) through OMH or OASAS.

    + Certified Peer Advocate (CRPA).

    Job Requirements:

    Key Responsibilities:

    Client Support:

    + Participate as an active member of the client’s treatment team, including team meetings and treatment planning sessions.

    + Assist clients in developing individualized recovery plans, including crisis planning and psychiatric advance directives.

    + Provide psychoeducation on illness management and peer support strategies.

    + Serve as a role model by sharing personal recovery experiences and teaching effective coping and self-help strategies.

    + Support clients’ recovery journeys through coordination, evaluation, and follow-up services within the housing program.

    + Provide advocacy on behalf of clients to ensure access to needed resources and services.

    Collaboration & Case Management:

    + Work in coordination with Housing Case Managers to provide case management and resourcing for clients.

    + Establish and maintain positive working relationships with service providers, community stakeholders, and key resources.

    + Keep accurate, thorough records for all assigned cases, using documentation to assist clients in evaluating progress.

    + Inform supervisors and team members of any client-related issues or concerns.

    Administrative Functions:

    + Perform timely and accurate HMIS data entry into ServicePoint for program tracking and compliance.

    + Participate in required training programs to maintain peer certification and ensure knowledge of best practices.

    General Duties:

    + Provide crisis intervention and early engagement as needed.

    + Attend and contribute to team meetings, trainings, and other organizational activities.

    + Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational and client success.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

    + Communication Skills:Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations and community providers.

    + Behavioral Health Knowledge:Strong understanding of the local behavioral health system and recovery-focused principles.

    + Technical Skills:Proficiency in electronic record-keeping (EHR systems) and HMIS platforms.

    + Time Management:Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

    + Crisis Management:Calm and composed under pressure, with experience in crisis intervention.

    + Transportation:Valid NYS Driver’s License, with personal vehicle availability for client transportation and community outreach.
