Salary: $60.000 Minimum

Daily Hours: 8.5 (7.5 paid)

Civil Service Title: Senior Network Technician
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in an information technology related field plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in the operation, installation or maintenance/repair of a computer network server or network operating system; OR
(B) Four (4) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A); OR,
(C) Successful completion of a recognized course in computer operations and repair such as training courses offered by the military, computer hardware vendors or consultants or any other training course providing "hands on" computer operation experience, plus two (2) years of experience as described in (A) above.
(D) Any equivelent training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), or (C) above.
Desired Qualifications:
Good knowledge of network capacity; good knowledge of applicable vendor code programming languages;
Good knowledge of network communication equipment; working knowledge of computer operation and equipment usage;
Working knowledge of the operation of peripheral equipment;
Working knowledge of electronics as it pertains to the installation of user equipment;
Supervisory ability;
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with others;
Skill in testing network communication signals and identifying problems;
Willingness to travel to other departments and agencies;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Education/Knowledge: College level knowledge of information technology and related network communications, including applicable hardware and software, typically acquired through the attainment of an Associates Degree in Computer Science, or the equivalent is required.
Work Experience: Three years performing duties in the operation, installation or maintenance/repair of a computer network server or network operating system is required.
Skills/Aptitudes/Abilities: Attention to detail; good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity; the ability to deal with people at all organizational levels; and good analytical, mathematical, organizational, problem solving and oral and written communication skills are required.
Working Conditions: Office, classroom and computer center environments. Extra hours and periodic rotation to different work locations are required. Occasional bending, crawling and climbing are required.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Installs, replaces, moves and repairs all server hardware and/or software;
Identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network-end-users issues and assists other network technicians;
Install and configures operating systems;
Troubleshoot access or performance issues with server operating systems, permissions, user accounts, Activity Directory and network printing;
Uses established help desk system to log request, monitor progress, report problem resolution and communicate with end user;
Write VB and PowerShell scripts as needed to assist in managing work;
Train other technicians on the use and features of new systems;
Performs Network Technician duties as needed;
Other duties as assigned.
