This position is under a 2-year grant program and will be limited to 3 qualified candidates.To be eligible, apprentices MUST have an associates degree, with coursework completed no later than June 2026 and the license issued and submitted to Vinton-Shellsburg CSD no later than August 1, 2026. Apprentices will continue to work full-time as paraeducators in the Vinton-Shellsburg CDS with all wage and benefits remaining under existing contract, enroll in a partner university for teacher education and begin classes during March 2025 semester (or soon after), and complete On the Job Training during the work day. Additional duties under the grant may include but not be limited to attendance/participation in: all teacher professional development days and parent-teacher conferences, a minimum of 1 IEP meeting, teaching/paraprofessional duties during summer school, substitute teaching as needed.The partner university is the University of Upper Iowa offering: All Business 5-12 Major, All Language Arts Major (for 5-12 Teacher Licensure), Social Science Basic Major (for 5-12 Teacher Licensure) Birth-Grade 3: Inclusive Settings Major (Unified Endorsement #1001), Elementary Education Major, K-8 Reading Endorsement #148, Instructional Strategist BD/LD/ID Major Grant funding will cover tuition and fees for coursework through the partner university as a reimbursement directly to the university. Continued participation in the apprenticeship program will be dependent upon successful course completion each semester. Candidates will be required to sign a waiver to allow data collection to be released to Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) and to allow data collection and payment to be exchanged with partner universities.
