    Job Summary

    Performs manual cleaning of the assigned buildings by the foreman. Uses proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for the building area and equipment, participates in the care, cleaning, and general housekeeping of the buildings that is assigned, completing all tasks assigned by the foreman.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Responsible for cleaning assigned buildings, sweeps, mops and cleans floors; cleans white boards as directed; washes windows, walls, blinds, grills and glass doors; empties trash cans. Also perform sets up and cleans up after events.

    + Dusts general areas vacuums rooms, replenishes supplies and cleans drinking fountains and restrooms. Cleans and sweeps entrances, outside plazas and walks.

    + Assist in the maintenance and care of custodial and event services equipment and furnishing such as vacuum cleaners, buffing machines, pressure washers, tables, chairs, tents, podiums and other related equipment and furnishings as required.

    + This position will require participation in call-out responsibilities and may require night shift responsibilities, and weekend work. Performs additional duties as assigned.

    + Reports damaged structures and equipment to supervisor.

    + Serves as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel and as directed by the Director of Physical Plant participates in pre-emergency preparations and post emergency recovery efforts.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Three (3) years custodial or related experience. Driver’s License required.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

     

    + Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.

    + Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.

    + Ability to operate carpet extraction machines, automatic floor scrubbers, buffers and burnishers.

    + Ability to perform hard floor care to include applying and removing stripper and applying multiple coats of floor wax.

    + Skill in managing one’s own time while completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

    + Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.

    + Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and the ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

    + Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

    + Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.

    + Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.

    + Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.

    + Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

    Preferred Qualifications

    5 years custodial or related experience. Floor care equipment experience.
