    Job Description:

    Terracon is seeking to hire an **_Asbestos/Environmental Field Scientist_** **to support our CT, MA, and RI operations.** We work on exciting projects including commercial, transportation, energy, and federal projects throughout New England and New York state. This position is for an individual who will be responsible for assisting in the planning, scheduling and execution of _Asbestos/Hazardous Building Materials surveys_ , and become cross-trained to perform various environmental assignments on projects of varying size and complexity. The successful candidate will be eager to learn and grow into all phases of environmental consultation including asbestos-hazardous building materials assessments and environmental site assessments.

    General Responsibilities:

    + Perform tests and sampling of asbestos, building materials and various environmental media

    + Assists with asbestos, mold, other IH surveys and abatement/remediation projects.

    + Will conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I ESAs) in accordance with ASTM Standard E1527-21, _Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process_ to identify recognized environmental conditions and other conditions of environmental concern associated with our Due Diligence practice.

    + Tabulate and prepare data for written reports.

    + Adhere to strict safety standards.

    **Essential Roles and Responsibilities** :

    + Independently performs non-routine field testing on a variety of projects.

    + Sample suspect asbestos-containing building materials in accordance with EPA AHERA guidelines.

    + Perform oversight and air monitoring during asbestos abatement projects.

    + Perform soil and groundwater monitoring and sampling.

    + For Phase I ESAs:

    + Reviews previous assessment reports, historical and regulatory records for the property; reports data in accordance with ASTM criteria and/or client's scope of work.

    + Conducts interviews with appropriate project stakeholders and government officials to obtain information concerning the environmental conditions related to the property and adjacent properties.

    + Writes reports which accurately convey the environmental assessment and provide exhibits and photos which illustrate or clarify information presented in the body of the report.

    + Obtains site access, public and private utility clearance, coordinates with various project stakeholders, and schedules drillers, laboratories, and other subcontractors for Phase II or Industrial Hygiene work.

    + Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.  Participate in pre-task planning.  Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

    + Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

    Requirements:

    + BS/BA degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related science field and 0–1-year relevant professional experience; or High school diploma or equivalent and minimum 5 years of relevant experience

    + Licenses and Certification in field of expertise including but not limited to:

    + CT DPH Asbestos Inspector

    + CT DPH Asbestos Project Monitor

    + Other New England states Asbestos Inspector or Asbestos Project Monitor licensing desired

    + Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
