    Job Summary

    The newly established research lab of Dr. Herman Fung in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (CDB) and the Life Sciences Institute (LSI), University of Michigan, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to explore human structural cell biology together using cryo-EM and cryo-ET with a focus on chromatin and nuclear structures during development (www.lsi.umich.edu/science/our-labs/herman-fung-lab).

     

    Qualified applicants will have experience in cell, structural or computational biology and a passion for applying and/or developing diverse tools for understanding gene regulatory mechanisms in differentiating cellsin vitroandin situ.

     

    The CDB and LSI offer an excellent environment for interdisciplinary stem cell research with exceptional cryo-EM/ET capabilities, including two Titan Krios, a Talos Artica, a Glacios, a cryo-Stellaris confocal microscope, and a PRIMO system. The Fung lab has extensive expertise in developing correlative cryo-ET workflows, and combining X-ray crystallography, single-particle cryo-EM, biochemistry and biophysics to dissect protein-nucleic acid systems.

    Responsibilities*

    You will stand at the forefront of chromatin research, using cutting-edge structural and cell biology to understand chromatin structure. You will lead your own interdisciplinary project within a diverse team of experimental and computational biologists. You will have a shared responsibility for fostering a positive, collaborative working culture within the group.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Ph.D. in cell biology, structural biology, computational biology, or related discipline

    + Independent work ethic and readiness to work at the interface of disciplines

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Desired Qualifications*

    Experience in at least one of the following is preferred:

    + Experience in cell biology, gene editing and light microscopy

    + Experience in recombinant protein production

    + Experience in single-particle cryo-EM and/or cryo-ET workflows

    + Experience in image processing and/or biostatics
