Job Title: Materials Testing Engineer - Coatings and Mechanical Testing
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Materials Testing Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity. This onsite position in Everett, WA will support the development of next-generation materials and components for sodium-cooled fast reactors, contributing to sustainable energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Oversee and develop comprehensive test programs aimed at evaluating material performance and degradation, including physical property measurements and mechanical testing.
+ Create test requirements, plans, specifications, and procedures tailored for testing unique materials in complex environments, such as liquid metal sodium.
+ Lead cooperative large-scale projects with external partners and suppliers to drive material testing and development.
+ Maintain project schedules to ensure timely delivery of results and adhere to quality standards.
+ Conduct materials testing and characterization in a laboratory environment.
+ Manage the procurement of materials, equipment, and testing services, including drafting procurement requisitions and overseeing supplier performance.
+ Perform scientific analyses on test data and generate technical reports that document findings related to materials performance, reactor design, and qualification.
+ Collaborate closely with design, fabrication, and operational teams to facilitate the execution of custom laboratory experiments.
Key Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience.
+ Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience is essential.
+ Proven expertise in metallography and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS).
+ Proficient in mechanical testing of various materials, including metals, ceramics, and hardfacing coatings.
+ Experience with extreme environmental testing is required.
+ Strong ability to produce comprehensive technical documentation, including test reports and formal studies.
+ Experience in collaboration with external partners for technical scopes of work is highly desirable.
+ Familiarity with quality management standards, such as ASME NQA-1, is preferred.
+ Excellent communication skills are necessary to foster teamwork and collaboration within a diverse team.
