Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for an _Event Management and Wildfire Mitigation Specialist_ to join our Customer Operations team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.
What does a Wildfire Event Management Specialist do for us?
This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing strategies that ensure a coordinated response to customer outages caused by wildfire or public safety power shut off events. To ensure preparedness this requires coordinating pre-season preparation activities, real-time event management, and post-incident reviews. A primary function of this role is to ensure procedure adherence during events by the internal incident command team.
Key responsibilities include planning and conducting functional exercises, identifying and tracking action items, and refining procedures to enhance organizational readiness and resilience. This role also develops and supports customer programs such as battery deployment across the Idaho Power service territory and provides training to internal teams to ensure role assignments are trained and prepared to support wildfire or public safety power shut off events. By centralizing these efforts, the role streamlines event response, allowing operational teams to focus on grid safety, restoration, and wildfire mitigation.
Job Duties:
+ Develops, coordinates, and proposes the company major event response program considering regulations and industry practices. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends changes based on regulatory requirements or event after actions learnings.
+ During events acts as a backup for the event manager role monitoring event management procedures adherence to ensure compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
+ Coordinates annual tabletop and functional exercises.
+ Coordinates after action reports for internal learning and external reporting with high attention to details and facts
+ May represent the company in after action reporting with executives or regulatory stakeholders.
+ Must be prepared to work weekends, after business hours to facilitate major event response.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Knowledge of:
+ Common software programs such as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
+ Energy efficiency terms and products and utility company operations

+ Wildfire hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities

+ Wildfire risk assessment theory and risk mitigation strategy development

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
+ Bachelor's degree
OR
+ An equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:
+ Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, business, engineering, accounting, public administration, law, mathematics, or a related field
Experience:
+ 5 years of experience in utility operations, wildfire mitigation projects, or program management
Preferred:
+ Oversight and training of various incident commander roles and procedures related to public safety power shutoff or other large customer outage events
+ Working knowledge of National Incident Management Systems
Licenses & Certifications:
+ Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires both office work and field work. The office work requires working at a desk/computer. It also requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The field work consists of meeting at outdoor worksites and off-site meeting areas. Driving is performed frequently. Lifts no greater than 10lbs are performed occasionally and occasional walking is required on sometimes rough, uneven ground. Stooping, bending, and standing is performed occasionally.
