    Position Summary: The Bridge Project Engineer will be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. The Bridge Project Engineer will design bridge and transportation structures of varying complexity in accordance with AASHTO and NJDOT Specifications. They will receive general supervision from the Project Manager and will assist with project management responsibilities as appropriate.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

     

    + Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

    + Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

    + Perform structural analysis and design calculations for bridges, retaining walls, bridge repairs, and ancillary structures

    + Design projects in accordance with NJDOT and industry standards, client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

    + Develop construction cost estimates

    + Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

    + Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates

    + Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

    + Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

    + Prepare proposals as required

    + Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders

    + Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

     

    Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

     

    + Perform other related duties as assigned

    Required SkillsRequired Experience

    + Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program

    + 4-8 years’ experience performing design of highway bridges and transportation structures

    + Proficient in structural analysis and design software

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office

    + Written and communication skills

    Preferred Experience

    + Professional Engineer License

    + Experience working with local clients at the county and state level

     

    Working Conditions

     

    Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

     

    Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
