    + Proven experience in payroll processing, payroll tax, and higher education payroll requirements.

    + Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.

    + Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    + Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

    + Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

    Job Description

    The Accountant III performs advanced professional accounting tasks using a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles to solve complex problems. The Accountant III may also be primarily responsible for a segment of the General Accounting operation, or a specialized complex area.

    Job Duties

    + Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts, investigate, and resolve payroll discrepancies or errors, and prepare journal entries to ensure all payroll-related accounts are balanced and accurate.

    + Identify, reconcile, collect, deposit, and account for employee payroll claims.

    + Analyze and post payroll expense transfer requests (Payroll Journal requests).

    + Process payments to third-party payroll vendors.

    + Collaborate with finance, human resources, and other departments to align payroll processing with employee records.

    + Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data for reporting purposes.

    + Prepare payroll reports and documentation for internal and external audits.

    + Respond to payroll-related queries from employees and resolve issues promptly.

    + Assist with fiscal year-end AFR payroll reports.

    + Assist with year-end processing and the distribution of W-2 and 1042-S forms.

    + Assist with the semimonthly and monthly payroll for faculty, staff, and student employees.

    + Assist in system upgrades and process improvements working closely with cross-functional teams, including HR, Budget, and IT.

    + Provide administrative support for various payroll projects.

    + Stay current with payroll best practices and higher education payroll regulations.
