    Description:

    In collaboration with the Emergency Services Manager, plans, develops, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates technical and administrative aspects of emergency medical services activities; evaluates medical training needs; prepares and conducts emergency medical services training for hospital Emergency Department Paramedics and pre-hospital personnel; functions as a liaison between the hospital and local, regional, and state EMS groups. Responsible for developing partnerships for quality improvement processes, informatics, education, and feedback opportunities. Additional responsibilities include participation and or coordination in disaster preparedness, EMS student education in the EC, and support the work of the Emergency Services Manager.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Oversees hospital training programs related to emergency preparedness. Coordinates with Emergency Services Manager and Educator to implement training programs.

     

    Oversees development of Emergency Department disaster response plans as they relate to internal/external disasters.

     

    Represents the Hospital at external meetings related to emergency preparedness planning.

     

    Directs education of pre-hospital care providers and establishes quality review process for EMS run sheets and maintains mechanism for reporting and follow up with EMS providers.

     

    Acts as a liaison between the Hospital and EMS Community.

     

    Participates and attends Medical Control Authority Meetings and reports back to Emergency Leadership Team

     

    Oversees internal and external disaster drill planning for the hospital in compliance with federal, state, and Joint Commission requirements.

     

    Assumes primary responsibility for EMS communications, equipment, and training.

     

    Coordinates with Emergency Services Manager and Marketing to promote the services of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland.

     

    Develops and initiates growth plan for EMS business in cooperation with the Emergency Services Director and Manager

     

    Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, periodicals, and books and or attending related in- services, seminars, and other educational offerings.

     

    Assists with Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advance Cardiac Life Support, International Trauma Life Support education.

     

    Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Excellent customer service skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

     

    Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, compose and deliver effective presentations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    **Experience:** Five (5) years pre-hospital experience in a busy EMS system. Teaching experience preferred.

    **Education:** Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Technology. Bachelors preferred.

    Licensure/Certification:

    Michigan Licensed Paramedic

     

    Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear, and Explosive Incidents (CBRNE) awareness with Operations within 6 months of hire

     

    ACLS provider with instructor within 6 months of hire.

     

    BCLS provider with instructor within 6 months of hire.

     

    ITLS provider with instructor within 1 year of hire.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Working in the patient care environment may result in exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous substances.

     

    Working weekends and holidays is necessary to meet staffing needs.
