    Duties Description The Student Assistant will work in the Department of States Office of Planning, Development and Community Infrastructure (OPDCI) in the Climate Resilience and Adaptation team with the primary responsibilities of supporting the University Partnerships for Innovative Climate Solutions (UPICS) Initiative through the development of materials that enhance the initiative, community climate sessions, and community adaptation planning efforts. They will also support efforts to develop and implement emerging community engagement techniques into OPDCI’s climate adaptation work. Duties will include but are not limited to the following: • Lead the development of a first of its kind UPICS Career Guidebook to serve as a professional development takeaway for students involved in the initiative that will include details, infographics, and resources that map out relevant NYS Agencies possible career paths, and job opportunities.• Serve as the research lead, which includes keeping apprised of the latest research in this space, best practices, new approaches, etc. Document and communicate that information to the OPDCI Climate Resilience and Adaptation team, other OPDCI staff, and Senior Management using a variety of creative methods, such as PowerPoint slide decks, videos, oral presentations, written materials, or new and innovative methods of communication.• Lead the development of products and materials, such as reports, journal articles, presentations, brochures, posters, etc., to disseminate findings to scientific policymakers, other partners, and the public.• Support the development of and attend engagement efforts and community meetings alongside other relevant OPDCI and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) staff.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Minimum QualificationsCandidates must be currently enrolled as part-time or full-time undergraduate Junior to Graduate Student at an education institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education.Send proof of enrollment in Summer/Fall 2025 Semester along with your resume and cover letter.It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Failure to show how you meet the minimum qualifications above may result in disqualification and removal from consideration.Preferred Qualifications• Strong ability to communicate to multiple audiences in a variety of formats, including written, visual, and oral. Familiarity and/or willingness to learn using a trauma-informed approach.• Working knowledge of or willingness to learn about climate change impacts, risks, and adaptation strategies for waterfront communities.• Ability to work as a team and independently.• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom and Webex.• Possess relevant education and skills, some expertise in or willingness to learn climate/environmental justice concepts and/or working with communities, and enthusiasm to work on climate change related projects.
