Assistant Professor in Fisheries and Conservation at the School of Marine Science and Policy, University of Delaware

The School of Marine Science and Policy (SMSP) seeks to hire a marine biologist at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) focused on conservation and management of marine resources. Specific areas of interest may include larger-scale organisms and issues (e.g., population–global scales) such as fisheries oceanography, marine ecology (e.g., molecular physiology, quantitative/theoretical ecology, population dynamics), biomechanics/functional morphology, and aquaculture. The preferred candidate will bring cutting-edge approaches that are relevant to international, federal, and state management agencies as well as industry and NGOs that complement existing strengths in aquatic biology within SMSP and UD more broadly.

The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate teaching mission of SMSP by teaching courses in their area of expertise, as well as marine population biology, conservation, and fisheries. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a robust externally funded research program, support graduate students, and contribute to interdisciplinary research activities and School service. The School offers graduate programs in Marine Biosciences, Oceanography, Physical Ocean Science & Engineering, and Marine Policy, as well as an undergraduate major in Marine Science with Marine Bioscience and Oceanography tracks. The School has facilities on the main campus in Newark, and the coastal campus in Lewes offers convenient access to a variety of coastal and estuarine environments in the Mid-Atlantic region. The School has active seagoing facilities, ranging from small boats to regional class vessels.

A PhD (or equivalent) is required, as well as a record of postdoctoral experience in marine biology, ecology, or other related fields. Successful candidates are expected to have demonstrated excellence in research and a dedicated interest in high-quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, and statements of research, teaching, and diversity. Inquiries regarding this position may be addressed to Professor Mark Warner ([email protected]). Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications, and a start-up package is available.
