The Media Relations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing focused global, national and local media strategies and plans to elevate our brand, conservation priorities and stories, spokespeople and subject matter experts.

This work includes:

Identifying media opportunities and proactively developing stories and pitches through regular meetings with Conservation and Marketing colleagues.

Growing and strengthening relationships with key media outlets to increase media coverage and secure placements in major outlets.

Develop content including narrative, key messages and quotes for dissemination via press releases and other distribution channels.

Ensure the New York team is well informed about relevant news by monitoring and flagging stories daily.

Serve as the organization's media liaison and respond to inbound press inquiries.

Managing media pitching, placement and dissemination of media information.

Drafting talking points and coaching TNC's spokespeople.

Developing and leading on strategies for Executive Visibility in key NYC metro media outlets.

Developing and leading on opportunities for reaching key audiences throughs strategic in-person events and engagements.

Contributing to the team's KPIs by tracking placements and reporting on analytics monthly.

Cultivating and managing relationships with top identified outlets, in collaboration with colleagues in New York and the Global Media team.

Identifying, implementing and executing media relations strategies to advance organization's goals.

Coordinating story development with marketing and PR colleagues across New York and wider.

Working closely with key spokespersons for executive visibility and outreach plans.

Proactive seeking and maximizing all relevant media opportunities in news cycle.

Writing press materials, messages and talking points, press releases and press background information.

Managing and monitoring press activity including events and press conferences.

Serving as New York media point person.

Managing press coverage reports for Quarterly Board meetings and Donors.

Expanding media cultivation and relationships with key journalists offline and online.

Qualifications:

The Media Relations Manager must have strong writing skills and will be expected to develop message points, organizational storylines and talking points and media preparation. S/he is knowledgeable and well versed on key environmental issues and has experience promoting those issues with the media. The Media Relations Manager will have a "nose for news" with creative and fresh ideas about conservation stories and priorities, and passion for seeing these ideas through to production.

Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum 7 years' related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience developing, implementing and measuring communications and engagement plans/strategies.

Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.

Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.

Experience writing, editing and proofreading.

Knowledge and experience with the New York City metro media market.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in media relations.

Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.

PR agency experience and/or cultivating and managing client relationships within a PR setting.

Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.

Experience leading or managing projects.

Knowledge of other languages and cultures, Spanish language preferred.
