    Overview:

    Do you want to be part of U.S. Navy Research and Development offshore on research vessels and ashore in fabrication and test lab facilities? Support underwater electromagnetic testing? TMG has an exciting opportunity for a full time Rigger to support the Navy in Fort Lauderdale, FL at NAVSEA’s South Florida Ocean Measurement Research, Development, Testing, & Evaluation facility. The Rigger supports underwater test equipment construction and maintenance, associated underwater and shore side assets, marine vehicles, small craft, equipment maintenance and operations. Preventative and environmental corrosion maintenance is primary duty.

     

    EXPERIENCE LEVEL: 1 - 5 years experience in fabrication or training demonstrating basic working knowledge of the properties and characteristics of a number of composite and plastic bonding agents, such as fiberglass, Kevlar, PVC, graphite, film adhesive, silicone, epoxies, etc;

     

    Must be fit and have ability to work in technical spaces on board vessels.

     

    We are looking for self-motivated candidates who have the drive and motivation to complete single or multiple projects simultaneously.

     

    Hands on is a must.

     

    EDUCATION: High school/vocational school diploma or GED certificate.

     

    CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: NCCER preferred but not required.

     

    TRAVEL: Occasional Travel

     

    Self-motivated fabricator to assist government employees to accomplish inspections, repairs, modifications, installations, troubleshooting, and build basic underwater structures.

     

    + Performs basic repairs and maintenance with minimum instruction in performing repair and maintenance of structural systems.

    + Experience or training demonstrating very basic working knowledge of the properties and characteristics of a number of composite and plastic bonding agents, such as fiberglass, Kevlar, PVC, graphite, film adhesive, silicones, epoxies, etc;

    + a very basic working knowledge of sheet metal theory, methods and practices;

    + knowledge of very basic shop mathematics to calculate proportions and amount of materials required in repairing or modifying components;

    + knowledge of and skill in the use of basic hand and powered tools common to the bonding operations as well as those utilized in the sheet metal trade or carpenter trade;

    + knowledge of health hazards associated with maintenance as well as proper mitigation procedures i.e. PPE, decontamination, and housekeeping; and ability to learn new skills and apply them to work in this series.

    + a very basic working knowledge of Welding – Fabricating to assemble, install and repair metal products and equipment. Working knowledge of TIG welding and other types of welding

    + Determines project requirements, including scope, assembly sequences, and required methods and materials, according to blueprints, drawings and written or verbal instructions.

    + Lays out, measures and marks dimensions and reference lines on material, according to drawings or templates.

    + Sets up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders and drill presses to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or otherwise form & assemble metal components.

    + Fabricate or alters parts at construction sites, using shears, hammers, punches or drills.

    + Maneuvers completed units into position for installation and anchor the units.

    + Ttransports prefabricated parts to construction sites for assembly and installation.

    + Drills and punches holes in metal for screws, bolts and rivets.

    + Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs or smoothens surfaces, seams or joints of assembled parts, using hand tools or portable power tools.

    + Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as required by project demands.

    + Should be willing to travel out of state on occasion as required by project demands.

    + Must pass fit for duty assessment, drug test, and background check

     

    Required: Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

     

    Desired: Previous experience of working with fiberglass, metals, such as steel, or aluminum. Experience in processes such as welding, drilling, tapping, cutting, grinding, punching, bending, notching and assembly, among others. Knowledge of production tools and equipment. Dockside, boating, or Marine experience. Experience maintaining small motors or hydraulic pumps.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 or more lbs.

     

    EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Minimum of 1year of experience as a Rigger.

     

    CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: NCCER preferred but not required.

     

    SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.

     

    TRAVEL: Occasional travel possible.
