    Practice the art and science of evidence-based advanced nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Units at Rady Children's Hospital! Be a well-respected expert at the bedside and lead the charge in improving the patient care experience alongside our team of passionate and hardworking nurses. This specialized role supports the three distinct units that comprise Hematology/Oncology: the Inpatient Unit, the Outpatient Clinic, and the Proton Therapy Unit.

    The CNS will focus on 4 main responsibilities:

    1. Comprehensive Patient Care: As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will act as a valuable resource for medically complex patients, providing specialized planning and coordination of care. You will work closely with the healthcare team to ensure patients receive the best possible treatment and support.

    2. Research and Best Practices: Keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology, you will actively research best practices, new protocols, and emerging therapies. By integrating evidence-based findings into patient care, you will contribute to the advancement of treatment approaches.

    3. Bedside Support: Maintain your clinical skills by serving as a hands-on resource at the bedside, offering care and expertise to optimize patient outcomes.

    4. Mentorship and Education: You will play a vital role in supporting and mentoring new staff, including recent nursing graduates and new to pediatric nurses. Your mentorship will help cultivate a supportive and knowledgeable team of healthcare professionals.

    ABOUT THE PECKHAM CENTER:

    From diagnosis through treatment and beyond, the Rady Children’s Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders offers a full range of pediatric clinical services, Integrative Medicine programs, and other resources to help patients and their families navigate their diagnosis and treatment. The Peckham Center is the largest pediatric cancer care provider and only pediatric blood and bone marrow transplant (BMT) program in San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial Counties. The Inpatient Hematology/Oncology Unit consists of 38 beds, all in private rooms, and includes 10 BMT beds in positive pressure rooms. We partner with California Protons to offer proton therapy. The Outpatient Clinic works closely with both the Inpatient Unit and Proton to provide comprehensive care to those in outpatient treatment. In addition to patient care, we have a research alliance with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and UC San Diego, and follow Children’s Oncology Group (COG) treatment protocols.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Masters Degree

    2 years of experience

     

    Current California RN License

     

    Current California CNS License

     

    BLS issued by the American Heart Association

     

    APHON Certification

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Doctorate Degree

    5 years of experience

     

    Previous CNS experience in a pediatric hematology/oncology unit.

     

    The expected hiring range for this position is $64.37 to $96.55.

     

    Rady Children’s Hospital is committed to compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable. We demonstrate this commitment by conducting regular market reviews to remain competitive with organizations of similar size in the nonprofit, healthcare sector. The range listed above does not represent the full salary range for the position but is the expected hiring range for qualified candidates. Compensation decisions consider a variety of factors including experience, education, licensure, unique skillsets, organizational need, and internal equity.
