SCBA Technician - Wage

Temporary/Casual Part-Time Position
College Station, TX
$20.59/hour
The Training Support Technician, under general supervision, will maintain Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment, Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers equipment and support training programs for the Emergency Services & Training Institute division. The Technician is responsible for the refill/ repair / maintenance / and distribution of all SCBA and Dry Chem related equipment. The Technician will be required to maintain accurate documentation of logs, repairs, inspections and testing reports. This position may assist supervisor with all inventories, record keeping, ordering equipment and consumables. This position will assist Instructional staff with training support as needed and may be required to assist other programs such as Maintenance and Private Sector.
This position will report to the Training Support Foreman - Breathing Air.
Required Qualifications:
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ One year of maintenance/repair experience or combination of the following: use of computer-based diagnostics, pneumatic equipment operation, tubing or pipe fitting, any mechanical repair/maintenance, and the use of hand/power tools.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
+ Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university or certificate from an accredited trade school.
+ Emergency Services experience.
+ Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus or respiratory equipment experience.
+ Compressor or mechanical experience related to compression systems.
+ Electrical experience in troubleshooting or reading wiring diagrams.
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
+ Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day. (standing)
+ Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
+ Physical conditioning consistent with performing maintenance on equipment and/or movement of training equipment to include standing, walk, sitting, climbing ladders or scaffolding, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling training equipment up to 80 lbs.
+ Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Ability to interpret basic technical drawings, sketches, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
+ Ability to operate equipment such as forklift, air compressors, and SCBA refill equipment.
+ Ability to operate power equipment such as drills, saws, grinders.
+ Ability to operate electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
+ Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively to perform job responsibilities.
+ Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to always maintain professional behavior and demeanor.
+ Ability to create a positive team approach environment and provide customer-friendly service to both internal and external customers.

Notifications:
+ This position is security sensitive.
+ This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
+ All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
+ This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
+ Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
+ This position may require 5% or more travel.
+ This position requires compliance with OSHA/NFPA standards, ESTI Respirator Protection Program related to the proper wearing of respirator. Beards, sideburns or mustaches must not exceed 2” in length for PPE equipment. Shaving of the entire sealing surface area of your face will be required to allow for annual respirator fit testing as well as immediately upon being given assignment of a task requiring use of a respirator. The requirement to shave cannot be discharged and to request the task be assigned to a coworker or subordinate. Refusal to shave immediately upon the assignment of a task that requires the use of a respirator will result in immediate disciplinary actions up to and including termination if deemed appropriate.
+ This a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:
Perform Class Support – 75%:
+ Performs inspecting, refilling, and maintaining of SCBA and Extinguisher related equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.
+ Prepositions equipment necessary for class delivery.
+ Ensures all equipment is operational and ready for use.
+ Assists with preparation / cleanup / restoration of training projects by securing the equipment in designated storage areas.
+ Will assist instructional staff with SCBA or Extinguisher training support.
+ Will assist other programs such as Extinguishers, Maintenance and Private Sector with facility operations.
Provide Work Area Support – 15%:
+ Maintains a clean and tidy appearance of work area at all times, including sweeping and pick up of refuse in shop areas.
+ Ensures office / storage areas are organized and clean.
+ Completes weekly Project Safety Analysis (PSA) of assigned facilities and reports any needed maintenance.
Procure supplies and/or materials – 10%:
+ May assist supervisor ordering supplies / equipment / materials in accordance with TAMUS / TEEX / ESTI regulations.
+ Completes all required purchasing documentation.
Other Duties:
+ Reports to work on time and duty assignments on time.
+ Maintains a clean and neat appearance.
+ Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and specified uniforms as required.
+ Attends scheduled safety meetings.
+ Completes listed training including: Word level I, Excel Level I, ESTI Safety Orientation, Basic First Aid, Purchasing Guidelines, In-house training prior to use for Mule, Forklift, TUG and all SCBA refill equipment.
+ Completes all SCBA training offered by the manufacturer for the types and brands of SCBA used at ESTI.
+ Performs additional work duties as assigned.
