Join Amazon's International VAT Policy team as a Senior Manager to work on new and innovative international VAT regulatory developments, partnering with impacted teams to shape our internal and external strategy. This is an office-based role in Arlington, Virginia.
This role will drive and shape a number of international VAT policy initiatives across the Amazon business (including Marketplace, Retail, Digital, AWS and Kuiper), working closely with tax, finance, public policy and business teams to understand and shape Amazon's response. The role will encompass a range of high profile projects and exposure to senior stakeholders.
Key job responsibilities
The International VAT Policy Senior Manager will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Developing a deep understanding of the business challenges created by new VAT regulatory developments and existing VAT rules, across all Amazon businesses.
- Identifying current business pain points and blockers created by existing VAT rules, to develop a compelling case for change.
- Monitoring and understanding existing and future VAT regulatory trends to enable timely debate on business impact and future strategy
- Partnering closely with Amazon's public policy teams to enable timely response to external consultations
- Reporting to senior leadership on the VAT regulatory horizon, business problem statements and our strategies to mitigate those.
- Working with external stakeholders, such as peers, tax technical industry groups and advisors.
A day in the life
A typical day will be spent:
- Connecting with key internal stakeholders and customers, such as tax, finance and public policy partners, on international VAT regulatory developments that are most impactful for the business- such as cross-border e-commerce VAT changes, marketplace regulations and e-invoicing.
- Developing a deep understanding of Amazon's business problem statements and how the VAT regulatory environment impacts those, working to find innovative and fully compliant solutions.
- Attending meetings with external stakeholders, including peer groups, trade associations and working groups.
About the team
The Amazon International VAT Policy team is part of the VAT advisory team at Amazon. We are a small but highly specialised and high impact team, working on the most material VAT regulatory issues and related business challenges.
Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- Experience in taxation in a corporate environment, public accounting firm or major law firm
- Experience relating complex tax risks to non-tax business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partner well with people at all levels within an organization, including coaching of junior staff
- Knowledge of international indirect tax planning and strong understanding of or practical experience with tax laws in other countries
- Experience of working with VAT policy issues either as part of government or private sector
