The Assistant Director of Communications and Outreach for the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE) at the University at Albany will play a pivotal role in enhancing the College's visibility, reputation, and strategic outreach. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of media campaigns related to University strategies and initiatives, building and sustaining the recruitment pipeline for CNSE and affiliated departments, and creating a wide range of published content and communication strategies for general audiences as well as for technical audiences.
The incumbent will lead content development and management across CNSE's key communications channels, including the website, social media platforms, and campus-wide messaging. Responsibilities include creating compelling content that highlights current activities, initiatives, and successes of CNSE's students, faculty, alumni, and research. The Assistant Director of Communications and Outreach will work closely with the Office of Communications and Marketing, as well as undergraduate and graduate admissions, to design and implement targeted campaigns to build a pipeline of prospective students and showcase CNSE's unique programs and contributions.
Additionally, this position will serve as a liaison for strategic communications with internal stakeholders, research partners, and external industry collaborators, ensuring that messaging is aligned, timely, and impactful. The portfolio also includes supporting events, special projects, and other initiatives that strengthen CNSE's brand and contribute to its long-term growth and success.
The Assistant Director of Communications and Outreach will be a skilled professional with exceptional communication and writing abilities, proficiency in social media and design tools.
The incumbent will report to the Dean and Vice Dean and work in close collaboration with them as well as Department Chairs, Administrative Managers, and CNSE faculty to develop and implement robust outreach and communications plans, and effectively communicate achievements to current and prospective students and appropriate audiences. In addition, the incumbent will assist with administrative tasks as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Define and deliver a CNSE communication strategy designed to promote CNSE research, academic programs, faculty, to defined audiences that includes:
+ Press releases
+ Annual Reports
+ Articles for the website and University Communications and Marketing department
+ Newsletters
+ Social media posts highlighting research and program achievements
+ Management of CNSE area of the UA website, Listservs, SLATE campaigns and all means of communication
+ Build the recruitment pipeline for UG, transfer and grad students by establishing and maintaining relationships and outreach to regional secondary schools, SUNYs, community colleges - particularly where articulation agreements are held and other organizations through regular engagement events, including talks, open house, career fairs and department events.
+ Develop promotional materials to admitted and prospective students for recruitment outreach (webinars, Zoom, and other platforms).
+ Attend local and regional events to promote CNSE programs at conferences, career fairs, academic institutions, etc. as well as internal college/department events
+ Drafts and coordinates mailings to diverse constitutes, tailoring each mailing to the various groups, including, but not limited to for prospective students and faculty as needed.
+ Network with academic and industry representatives to identify areas for partnerships and promotion
+ Develop and maintain a database of companies, contacts, alumni and other data to help build the pipeline
+ Serves as the liaison between the Office of Admissions, the Grad School, the Career Office and the Office of Communications and Marketing concerning materials for prospective and admitted students,

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
+ Reports to Dean, Vice Dean with dotted line to Office of Communications and Marketing.
+ Works closely with admissions, advising, graduate school and the University's Communications and Marketing department to assist in the development of marketing materials and web strategy for prospective and admitted students.
+ Coordinates with career services and departmental academic leaderships
Job Requirements:
+ Social media, writing and editing, design and design software, web/content management;
+ Knowledge of higher ed practices.

Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
+ Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or closely related field in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Over 4 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations or closely related field in higher education
+ Knowledge of higher ed practices
+ Experience with STEM programming

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Assistant Director of Community Relations, SL-3, $58,000-$64,000
