Plastic Mold Maker

We are seeking a 10+ years plastics mold maker to join our growing manufacturing team in Palmetto, FL.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Read and interpret CAD designs to build plastic molds accurately
+ Collaborate with engineers or designers to create functional mold designs
+ Use machines like CNC Mazak Mills, lathes, grinders and EDM machines to cut and mold components
+ Fit and assemble mold parts to ensure precise alignment and operation
+ Check molds for accuracy, defects, and functions
+ Perform trial runs to verify output quality
+ Troubleshoot and repair worn or damaged molds; perform routine maintenance
+ Select and work with material like steel, aluminum, and alloys depending on the product needs
+ Maintain tight tolerances and quality standards throughout the mold making process
+ Maintain detailed records of mold design, repairs, and modifications
Questions client could ask:
1. Can you describe the process of making an injection mold from start to finish?
2. What types of molds have you worked with (e.g., injection, blow, compression, die-casting)?
3. What CAD/CAM software are you experienced with?
4. How do you determine the best mold material for a given job?
5. What tolerances do you typically work within?
6. How do you handle mold maintenance and repair?
Experience and Skills
1. How many years have you been making molds?
2. Can you describe a particularly challenging mold you’ve built?
3. Have you worked with multi-cavity or hot runner systems?
4. How do you ensure accuracy and quality in your molds?
5. Do you have experience with CNC machining, EDM, or surface grinding?
Problem Solving
1. What would you do if a mold keeps producing parts with defects?
2. How do you diagnose and fix issues like flash, short shots, or warping?
3. Have you ever had to redesign a mold? What was the reason
Safety and Communication
1. What safety protocols do you follow in the shop?
2. How do you communicate with designers, machinists, or toolmakers?
3. Do you document your work or keep logs of mold performance
Shift: 7am-5:30 Monday-Friday
30 or more an hour based on experience

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $37.00/hr.
