    Job Summary

    The Office of Equal Opportunity and Access is seeking an Accommodation Associate. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

     

    Join a group of collaborative, equity-minded professionals committed to advancing diversity throughout the university. Oregon State University’s ( OSU ) Office of Equal Opportunity and Access ( EOA ) is ready for an Accommodation Associate to help us to the next level in proactively engaging the university community about our work, and to push the institution inclusive of and beyond civil rights compliance. We are seeking an associate with foresight for advancing these objectives through relationship building and a focus on continuous improvement of processes, procedures, communications, and training efforts.

     

    The Accommodation Associate supports the equal opportunity and civil rights compliance obligations and commitments of the university by enhancing and expanding the presence of the office in accommodation and accessible program design consultative efforts with university programs on campus, online, and in the broader community. EOA is committed to success for the entire university community through equity, fairness, and understanding. EOA serves as the civil rights compliance office for the university and engages in strategic leadership to advance inclusion efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    45% Consulting, Outreach, and Training

     

    + Serve as first point of contact for OSU departments, offices, and programs seeking EOA consultation on their obligations to accommodate program participants and the necessary processes to determine accommodations.

    + Serves as consultant regarding disability, workplace employment, and access.

    + Engages programs and supervisors in training related to accessible program design and their obligations to respond to accommodation requests. Engages disabled community and employees in training on their rights to request accommodations.

    + In collaboration with supervisor and colleagues, provides leadership and guidance to the university community regarding program accommodation and consultative questions received from programs outside of traditional academic classroom settings.

    + Individually and collaboratively, design and conduct educational training sessions on broader topics of equity, inclusion, and diversity in how they relate to equal opportunity obligations.

    + Provides outreach and training at events, fairs, to HR, employees, stakeholders and community members, and others regarding how to access services and accommodations.

     

    35% Accommodation Process and Case Load Responsibilities

     

    + Provides management and administration of OSU’s employment accommodation processes. Applies subject-matter expertise and exercises judgment in determining effective and reasonable accommodations utilizing the interactive process to remove barriers.

    + Oversees communication with medical providers or others as appropriate to resolve issues, questions, or ambiguities related to an accommodation request.

    + Reviews relevant documentation and information to determine eligibility for reasonable accommodations.

    + Maintains appropriate confidentiality of accommodation requests and provides guidance to programs, employees, and supervisors regarding confidentiality.

    + Serves as direct contact and support for programs, employees, and supervisors on reasonable accommodations, identifies barriers, and provides ongoing consultation to departments and supervisors on access and universal design. Meets with programs, supervisors, managers, and employees to discuss and resolve accommodation requests.

    + Prepares communication to programs, employees, and supervisors regarding determination of eligibility and reasonable accommodations. Maintains a record of all disability and accommodation requests and the resolution of each.

    + Stays current on state and federal laws and regulations as well as best practices relating to accommodation policies and procedures for people with disabilities.

     

    10% Policy and Procedure Development

     

    + Serves as a subject-matter expert for employee and community accommodation processes, policy, and practice development, and collaborates with relevant university offices to revise policies/practice based on current law and best practices.

    + Collaborates with other members of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access and university leadership to develop policy, operating guidelines, or practices to ensure compliance with equal opportunity obligations and consistency with aspirations for inclusion in all university programs, services, and activities.

     

    10% Service and Other Activities

     

    + At the direction of the Director and/or Executive Director, works collaboratively with other employees across units to advance departmental/institutional priorities.

    + Provides service to the university and surrounding community, including participation on relevant and related university committees and in campus/community activities.

    + Performs additional responsibilities as assigned, including opportunities for growth and professional development in other areas of interest related to the work of the office.

    What You Will Need

    + Bachelor’s degree

    + Excellent organizational skills and ability to attend to and manage multiple projects

    + Ability to design and present educational/training programs and presentations

    + Ability to develop and cultivate positive working relationships with institutional partners

    + Demonstrated ability to work effectively, one-on-one and within groups, across multiple aspects of difference

    + Experience using strong analytical and critical thinking skills for assessment and summary

    + Demonstrated effectiveness in oral, written, and email communications.

    + Understanding of barriers to accessibility

    + Ability to understand and explain laws, rules, regulations and/or internal policies and procedures

    + Demonstrated ability to understand and support the strategic goals of the university articulated in the strategic plan titled Prosperity Widely Shared.

     

    This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

    What We Would Like You to Have

    + Master’s degree in Counseling, Disability Studies, Rehabilitation Services, Special Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Social Work, Psychology, Social Justice, Higher Education, or related field

    + Experience using database systems or other case management software

    + Case management and/or case processing experience

    + Background providing services to people with disabilities, with evidence of prior decision-making authority for determining reasonable accommodations (not necessarily employment focused)

    + Experience with ADA /504/ IEP related accommodation requests

    + Experience facilitating difficult/challenging conversations

    + In-depth understanding of key legislation and regulations related to disability

    + Proficiency with languages or cultures increasingly represented at OSU , such as Deaf Culture and American Sign Language

    Working Conditions / Work Schedule

    The individual in this role will need to attend meetings and events occasionally outside of typical work hours, which may include evenings and weekends. Travel to Oregon State University sites beyond Corvallis may occasionally be required, with occasional overnight travel. Flex hours will be provided for identified and approved events. This position is intended to be a primarily in-person role, with some hybrid remote work available, based on the needs of the office.
