RESPONSIBILITIES
Please note: This is a Temporary position.
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages the daily operations and activities of dental/medical billing and coding services to ensure complete, accurate and compliant billing and coding that maximizes collections for all providers being billed at The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC).
• Ensures operations and related functions and activities comply with QHS’s policies and procedures, state/federal and medical/legal regulations, business practices, health plan requirements, insurance carriers and third party payors.
• Ensures positive working relationships with providers for new and existing professional services. Ensures regular meetings are established with providers to review reports relevant to coding accuracy and documentation improvement that lead to an improved clean claims rate.
• Champions new projects and implementations impacting dental billing and coding.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Essential: sitting, seeing, hearing, speaking, repetitive arm/hand motions.
• Frequent: walking, finger dexterity.
• Occasional: standing, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, twisting body, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods, frequent gripping of an object.
• Operates computer, typewriter, calculator, telephone, fax and printer.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, health care or related field; or four (4) years experience in an acute care hospital, dental clinic, outpatient clinic, medical group practice, business services or other related area in healthcare revenue cycle may be substituted for the educational requirement.
• Current certification in dental billing or coding preferred.
B. EXPERIENCE:
• In addition to the educational requirement, three (3) years experience in dental, hospital or physician practice billing/collections and/or coding, preferably in a comparable organization.
• One (1) year supervisory/leadership experience.
• Knowledge of third party payor and reimbursement regulations, including Medicare/Medicaid program requirements.
• In-depth knowledge of dental and medical terminology and CDT codes as it relates to patient diagnosis.
• Knowledge of HCFA 1500 billing and ADA coding requirements.
• Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with dentists, other departments, and outside agencies.
• Strong knowledge of Dentrix dental practice management system.
• Demonstrated experience in computer applications and information systems, including familiarity with spreadsheets and word processing programs.
• Prior experience with Epic preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10 codes preferred.
