    Young Adult Peer Mentor

     

    Mobile Position North of Boston

     

    $21.00 per hour

     

    The Edinburg Center is seeking a part-time Young Adult Peer Mentor for a Children’s Mental Health Services program providing services to youth under the age of 21 with mental health needs in the communities of the North Shore.

    Who You Are:

    A dedicated individual who must have personal experience living with mental health diagnosis, substance use, trauma or DCF/juvenile justice system knowledge and a willingness to share their journey, with purpose and intent. A High School Diploma/GED, and reliable transportation. Demonstrated experience working with youth in professional or nonprofessional capacity. Good listening skills, nonjudgmental ability to foster self-sufficiency; desire to work in community with family and youth. Ability to establish trusting relationships through compassion, and empathy. Computer proficiency required including ability to work with email, and to learn electronic health records.

    What you will do:

    Young Adult Peer Mentors (YAPMs) working in a variety of settings, use their personal lived experience to connect with, validate, inspire, and provide support to youth and young adults with mental health diagnoses. YAPMs meet individually with youth and young adults to provide one-on-one peer support, collaborate with parents/caregivers (as appropriate) and other service providers to ensure youth and young adult needs are met. YAPM’s support youth and young adults by connecting them with support groups, activities, and by building on natural supports. YAPMs use their perspective in team meetings to educate and ensure services are youth and young adult attuned.

    A dedicated team of professionals who have chosen to join an organization with a forty year history of serving people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, brain injury and autism in the community. When we’re not at work, we love to hike, bike, craft, read, shop and sing opera, among many other things! Our staff of 350 have range of interests and skills and we know you do too!     At work, we are psychiatrists, social workers, clinicians, nurses, behavior specialists, peer specialists, board certified behavior analysts, direct service staff and employment specialists.
