Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Underwriting Assistant to join a dynamic team in the health insurance industry. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days on-site and two remote days each week after the training period. Based in Portland, Maine, this position provides an excellent opportunity to support underwriting operations while gaining valuable industry experience.
Responsibilities:
• Assist underwriters in reviewing and processing insurance applications to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, file management, and document preparation to support underwriting activities.
• Collaborate with internal teams to address inquiries and provide timely updates on application statuses.
• Conduct quality control checks to verify the accuracy of information and adherence to regulatory standards.
• Maintain organized records and ensure proper documentation for underwriting decisions.
• Communicate effectively with clients or brokers to collect missing information and resolve application discrepancies.
• Support the team in meeting deadlines and achieving operational goals.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on industry trends and company procedures.

Requirements
• At least 1 year of experience in an administrative or customer service role, preferably in the insurance industry.
• Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in using office software and tools for data entry and document management.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with clients and team members.
• Familiarity with underwriting processes or commercial insurance is a plus.
• Ability to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Some college education is preferred but not required.
• A proactive attitude and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
