The College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) at CU Boulder encourages applications for the A&S Personnel Senior Director position! This A&S Personnel Senior Director reports to the college's Assistant Dean of Administration and holds responsibility for the faculty affairs and staff affairs teams in Dean's Office. The A&S Personnel Senior Director will be responsible for ensuring that data collection is robust and reliable, that faculty and staff affairs life cycles are attended to comprehensively, and that administration of personnel policies and procedures are effective. The A&S Personnel Senior Director recognizes nuances that may require innovative solutions, ensures that the appropriate and approved protocol is followed, and sees that partners are served in an accurate, and timely manner.
The A&S Personnel Senior Director provides direction to their teams, serving over one thousand faculty and over four hundred professional staff. This individual provides guidance, advice, and direct assistance to the Assistant Dean of Administration, the deans, and chairs/directors. Areas of oversight include but are not limited to: recruitment, hiring, onboarding, leave administration, performance/merit, compensation, promotion, training/engagement, and separation/retirement. The College of Arts and Sciences comprises over 80 departments, programs, and centers, over 1,000 faculty, and 500 non-faculty employees. The Dean's Office personnel unit is responsible for assessing and handling the human and organizational needs of the college.
The college leads nationally in undergraduate and graduate education in the natural sciences, social sciences and arts and humanities, bringing world-class research and scholarship to our students, both in and out of the classroom.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
_Administrative Leadership:_
+ **Strategic Planning:** Develop and implement goals and strategies that align staff and faculty affairs process, to the extent possible, for college efficiency and effectiveness, and departmental success.
+ Provide bi-annual reporting on strategic goals, staffing needs, and key performance indicators to measure departmental and employee effectiveness.
+ Develop and maintain systematic personnel data collection processes and procedures and ensure they are robust, reliable, timely, and reportable. Data will be analyzed by various team members and used to align policy and procedure and inform deans and senior leadership (college and campus) to facilitate consistent high-level decision-making and commitment tracking.
+ **Policy Implementation** : Ensure adherence to college, campus, system, Regents, and governmental policies, procedures, and compliance with relevant regulations.
+ Ensure allocation aligns with priorities identified by the supervisor.
_Team Supervision:_
+ **Workload Allocation:** Manage duty and responsibility assignments made by the Staff Affairs Director and Faculty Affairs Lead, to meet college goals.
+ Ensure directors are providing training and guidance to teams, to ensure, ownership, collaboration, and standardization of personnel procedure.
+ Provide consistent feedback and suggestions for professional development opportunities
+ Ensure direct reports receive the training needed to be successful in role.
+ Approve timesheet for direct reports. Ensure that there is coverage at all times. Provide backup for each as needed.
+ "Cross-train," to ensure a point-of-contact is available for constituents within the College of Arts and Sciences including the dean and divisional dean team
+ Set goals and conduct performance planning and evaluation
+ Ensure personnel actions are tracked and documentation is maintained.
+ **Conflict Mediation:** Address disputes or grievances between employees and mediate resolutions.
+ **Diversity and Inclusion:** Promote a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the team and college.
+ **Team Building:** Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
+ _Operational Management:_
+ In collaboration with critical college and campus partners (Budget Office, Communication team, divisional leadership, and campus), take ownership of process and tool cleanup by participating in meetings with other collaborators, assisting with the identification and development of process efficiencies involving resources and tools, and assisting with the implementation and communication of updates, to improve and align college-wide processes and/or policies.
+ **Technology Integration:** Ensure effective use of administrative technology in operations.
+ Create and ensure maintenance of personnel life cycle tools and resources- cradle to grave.
+ Tools and resources will ensure transparent workflow and decision-making, the elevation of department team member knowledge/ownership of the role, and cohesion between the college divisional structure.
+ **Policy Review** : Regularly evaluate and update policies and procedures to align with institutional, college, and divisional goals.
+ **Record Maintenance** : Maintain accurate records.
_Advising, Consultation, and Communication:_
+ Uses research and analysis to formulate a well-informed point of view concerning internal and external trends related to hiring and retention.
+ Ensure compliance with college standards and support leadership in preparing documentation for review.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert, thus a bridge between campus, division, department, and college.
+ Serves as point of information regarding campus and university policy, and federal and state law, for deans.
+ Collaborate with campus, college, and divisional partners to develop and review operational improvements.
+ Work with formal and informal committees to address operational and institutional matters.
+ Represent A&S at various college and campus-wide meetings.
+ Document procedures in a clear and consistent manner.
_Communication:_
+ Ensure clear, proactive, and consistent communication with all collaborators.
+ Ensures that web presence is maintained by providing updated personnel content-procedures, procedural steps, policies, forms, templates, and resources.
+ Provides trainings (scheduled and ad hoc)
+ Liaise with campus partners (Provost office, Office of Faculty Affairs, HR Service Center, HR FMLA Coordinator, Affirmative Action Officer, etc.)
What You Should Know
It is anticipated that this role will work fully on campus/in the office during the initial training period, with potential for hybrid work after that time. This modality is subject to change dependent on business needs.
What We Can Offer
The annual salary range for this full-time position is $140,000-$148,000. Onboarding assistance is available per departmental guidelines.

What We Require
+ Bachelor's degree or a combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned may be substituted on a year-by-year basis.
+ At least 5 years of demonstrable progressive experience leading a team and providing oversight over an administrative functional area in a higher education or public education environment.
