Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Model Based System Design Engineering Specialist.
This role is based at Eaton’s Thomas A. Edison Technical Center in Franksville, WI, and offers a hybrid work schedule of three days in office/two days remote. Sponsorship & relocation from within the U.S. is provided!
The expected annual salary range for this role is $115499.97 - $169399.96 a year.

As a Model Based System Design (MBSD) Engineering Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the products that support the electric grid’s future. This role is crucial in harnessing high-tech embedded control platforms to bring to life the protection and control requirements necessary for the grid’s evolution.

-Oversee programs involving hardware, software, firmware, and FPGA components to develop embedded controls and features for the Power Reliability and Power Delivery and Regulation Divisions.
-Establish strategic and tactical streams for deploying MBD in controls development projects.
-Collaborate with systems engineering, Centers of Excellence, and development functions to foster new process adoption.
-Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in MBSD, mentoring engineers and leaders, promoting growth, standardization, and competency development.
-Create embedded control systems architectures and models in collaboration with application SMEs, firmware, software, and hardware architects.
-Utilize debugging and simulation tools for efficient design iterations and optimization.
-Evaluate system-level requirements and control algorithms to guarantee product functionality and robustness.
-Contribute to defining and enhancing embedded controls MBSD standards and processes.
-Work with global cross-functional teams to develop system requirements, design plans, and execute projects, achieving sprint and project goals.
-Identify opportunities for re-use and improvement by sharing architectures, models, and simulation/testing methods with future projects and development teams.
-Implement best-in-class MBSE/MBSD frameworks, including controls architecture design, requirements management, simulation architectures, models, auto code generation, firmware integration, and advanced/automated testing methodologies in collaboration with MBD chief engineers.
Qualifications:
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
-Minimum 7 years experience using Model Based Engineering tools, with at least 1 year experience in modeling embedded devices.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited institution.
-A minimum of 7 years of experience with Matlab Simulink performing system architecture, modeling, testing, and auto code generation (C / C++) from embedded device modeling
-Experience in Control Systems architecture, design, and applicable tools (e.g., System Composer, IBM Rhapsody)
-Experience modeling, testing, and auto code generation (e.g., Simulink, Stateflow), covering different levels of application layers (e.g., FPGA, embedded micro-processors, DSPs).
-Experience with requirements definition, decomposition, and management at system and subsystem levels and applicable tools (e.g., DNG, Jama, Doors, Simulink Requirements)
-Experience integrating Model Based Controls with Plant Models for co-simulation, C-code with Simulink (ex. Using S-functions), and allowing simulation of integrated Firmware structures (Auto-code + handwritten code)
-Familiarity with firmware integration and testing background (e.g., embedded C/C++, microprocessors, including floating point and fixed-point implementations; FPGA code; integration of auto-generated code with handwritten software such as code wrappers
-Familiarity with hardware in the Loop (HIL) Testing, with systems such as DSpace, SpeedGoat, Opal RT
-Familiarity with development tools such as Confluence, Jira, GitHub
-Awareness of testing tools related to Static and Dynamic analysis and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) Methodologies
Skills:
-Collaborate with a global multi-discipline engineering teams (software, firmware, hardware, power systems, systems, product and test) to deliver products and features in the Controls and Relays Group.
-Collaborate with external and internal customers, such as Marketing, Service, Operations and other engineering teams throughout the product development life cycle.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively explain technical issues/concepts.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-Self-starter with the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.
-Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
-Strong planning and organizational skills.
-Ability to travel up to 25%
