    Are you passionate about both patient care and nursing education? UPMC Hamot School of Nursing is looking for a dynamic Full-Time Nursing Instructor/Professional Nurse to join our team! This unique dual-role position offers the opportunity to influence patient outcomes while also shaping the next generation of nurses.

    Position Summary

    In this dual role, you will serve as both a Professional Nurse and a Nursing Instructor, blending clinical expertise with teaching excellence. As a Nursing Instructor, you will guide and evaluate students in the clinical setting, ensuring they gain the knowledge and experience to deliver safe, high-quality care. As a Professional Nurse, you will serve as a role model and direct care provider, setting standards of excellence in nursing practice.

    Key Responsibilities

    Clinical Instruction & Education

    + Guide, instruct, and evaluate nursing students during clinical practicum experiences.

    + Provide clinical instruction grounded in best practices and current nursing education theory.

    + Create meaningful, individualized clinical assignments based on student learning needs.

    + Deliver timely and constructive feedback and evaluations to students.

    + Demonstrate clinical competence and serve as a mentor and preceptor.

    + Promote cultural competency, civility, and inclusion in educational settings.

    Nursing Practice & Leadership

    + Serve as a role model in clinical practice, demonstrating critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.

    + Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care.

    + Apply the nursing process using Relationship-Based Care principles to meet holistic patient needs.

    + Document and communicate patient care effectively across the care team.

    + Lead or support quality improvement and evidence-based initiatives.

    + Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

    Educational & Organizational Engagement

    + Participate in faculty committees and contribute to school governance.

    + Utilize information technology to enhance the teaching-learning process.

    + Support continuous improvement in curriculum, instruction, and clinical education.

    + Build and maintain positive relationships with students, peers, patients, and faculty.

    Required Qualifications

    + Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required

    + Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience

    + Precepting experience required; clinical teaching in a pre-licensure program preferred

    + Previous teaching experience preferred

    + Appointment and retention contingent upon approval by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing

    Skills & Abilities

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    + Clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability

    + Ability to lead students in applying the nursing process

    + Commitment to cultural awareness, dignity, and respect

    + Physical stamina for patient care activities (standing, lifting, walking)

    + Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a complex environment

    + Ability to model professionalism, resilience, and collaboration across campuses

    Licensure, Certifications & Clearances

    + Current Pennsylvania RN license

    + Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR Certification (AHA-compliant, within 30 days of hire)

    + Appointment and continued employment contingent upon PA State Board of Nursing approval

    + Employees with out-of-state NLC licenses who relocate to Pennsylvania will have 60 days to obtain PA licensure.
