    The 14th Street Y is a vibrant Jewish community center located in Downtown Manhattan.     PROGRAM-About New Town Day Camp (NTDC) at the 14Y

     

    New Town Day Camp (NTDC) at the 14th Street Y, a vibrant Jewish community center in the East Village, provides a fun and safe environment where children can celebrate summer, make new friends, and enjoy enriching activities. Our campers explore and play in the 14Y’s excellent facilities, including a heated indoor pool, gymnasium, and well-equipped, air-conditioned classrooms. A highlight of each day is time spent on our beautifully designed rooftop playground, featuring sprinklers and shaded areas for outdoor fun. To foster social connections, campers are grouped by age. Children ages 3-5 participate in swim activities with the support of their counselors, while those under three enjoy daily sprinkler play on the roof.

    JOB PURPOSE

    Lead engaging and developmentally appropriate art experiences for young campers. In our art studio, campers engage in imaginative projects using a variety of materials, including clay, watercolor, loose parts, printmaking, sculpture, and more. We encourage self-expression, experimentation, and collaboration as children bring their ideas to life.

    Position Details:

    + Schedule: 3 days per week, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM June 27-Aug 9

    + Location: 14Y, 344 East 14th Street

    + Duration: Summer 2024

    Responsibilities:

    + Lead small-group, process-based art activities for campers aged 2-5.

    + Set up and maintain a welcoming and organized art studio space.

    + Introduce children to a variety of materials and techniques, fostering creativity and confidence.

    + Collaborate with camp counselors and teachers to support special projects.

    + Document and display children’s artwork throughout the camp session.

    + Assist with maintaining and organizing art supplies.

    Qualifications:

    + Experience working with young children (ages 2-5) in an educational or camp setting.

    + Background in art education, early childhood education, or a related field.

    + Passion for process-based, child-led art experiences.

    + Ability to create an inclusive and engaging environment for all campers.

    + Strong collaboration and communication skills.

    + Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and navigate the art studio space comfortably, including bending, reaching, and moving between activity areas as needed.
