JOB DESCRIPTION:
Conducts innovative scientific investigation by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB. Committed to the discovery of new innovative biomedical and health services knowledge leading to increasingly effective and accessible health care. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques and procedures while using judgment when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
A full-time Research Scientist I position is available in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston to study the molecular mechanisms of kidney disease and to develop novel therapeutic concepts.
The ideal candidate is expected to join a dynamic and well-published research team that provides a platform to perform research in the designated area. The candidate should be highly motivated, can work independently as well as collaboratively as part of the team.
+ Drive NIH funded projects under the direct supervision of PI.
+ Perform the proposed experiments and collect the experimental data.
+ Work with a group of scientists for trouble shooting and brainstorming.
+ Design and develop new research protocols and experimental procedures.
+ Analyzes data and write the findings up together with PI for publication.
+ Present research findings at local/national/international meetings.
+ Help PI train or mentor research staff and student.
+ Generate novel research ideas and develop new research grant proposals.
_MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_
+ Ph. D, M.D, D.O., or D.V.M in related field and no experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ MD or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, or a related field.
+ Experience with handling small laboratory animals, or
+ Experience with bioinformatical analysis of sequencing data (including single-cell and bulk genomic and epigenomic data).
+ Having the potential to develop into an independent scientist and/or faculty member.
