Patient Access Supervisor, Call Center/Outpatient

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our **Patient Access Services Team** is responsible for completing varied, diverse and specialized duties to support the Revenue Cycle, Compliance and Patient Experience by accurately and efficiently completing tasks in areas of Registration, Financial Screening and Verification, and Patient Throughput.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care and effectively respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Our **Patient Access Supervisor** is a key member of the Patient Access Management team and is responsible for the Call Center, Scheduling and Pre-registration functions for hospital services.This position is in a Leadership role supporting registration integrity, positive patient experience, revenue cycle and regulatory requirements.

Duties of a Patient Access Supervisor may include the following, but are not limited to:

+ Serves as the go-to Patient Access Department contact person for the staff within the call center, main hospital admitting office and various offsite hospital locations.

+ Facilitates revenue cycle integrity and positive patient experience, engaging staff to courteously and professionally obtain accurate and complete demographic and financial information in alignment with established departmental/hospital processes.

+ Fulfills a supervisory role to assign and monitor staff work efforts, to meet operational needs for efficient scheduling, pre-registration, and arrival/registration.

+ Monitor worklists, queues and adjust registrar assignments ensuring department is meeting patient scheduling, pre-registration and registration guidelines.

+ Monitors staff productivity and provides constructive feedback to staff with management guidance in real time to support registration, compliance and financial objectives including accuracy, eligibility, and Point of Service collections.

+ Adjusts staff assignments and schedules, as appropriate.

+ Ongoing quality assurance and audit of employee registrations to determine training needs.

+ Responsible for maintaining and collecting statistical data for audit, reports special projects or assignments as requested. Identifies opportunities for process improvement to support revenue cycle goals.

+ Train staff on new workflows, processes and procedures.

+ Ensure timely completion of performance programs, employee evaluations, time off requests and timecards.

+ Appropriately relays issues identified as requiring higher-level intervention to manager’s attention.

**Essential Position:** This function/position has been designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency (staff shortages, increased census, inclement weather, and/or other emergencies), employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

Qualifications

Required:

+ Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years’ experience, or Associate Degree with 4 years’ working experience in healthcare or related field. Or in lieu of degree, 6 years’ of demonstrated excellence working in healthcare or related field in a supervisory capacity.

+ Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal and presentation skills are essential.The selected candidate will be required to work some holidays.

Preferred:

+ Supervisory experience in hospital.

+ Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services

* + Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.

+ Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen

* + Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.

+ Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $63,592 - $77,518 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

+ Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($3,400).
