    Job Description

    The main purpose of this position is to support the research mission of Boston College and the goals ofResearch Finance.

    This position is an integral partner in a sponsored programs administration team that will:

    • Manage service and provide guidance and direction to specific BC departments, schools, and Centers/Institutes on all post award administration functions after awards are created to award close-out.

    • Works closely as a team with both Pre and Post award Administration to assure compliance with sponsor requirements while providing excellent service to principal investigators, researchers and administrators.

    • Build relationships and develop shared understandings of roles and responsibilities with:

    • Departmental administrators

    • Departmental faculty and other researchers

    • Other internal and external stakeholders

    • Investigate, communicate andcoordinate with the research community to solve complex problems related to budget management, procurement, salary administration, billing and collections, financial reporting, cost-transfers, effort reporting, cost sharing, over-expenditures and other post-award research administration issues.

    • Independently identify significant issues and seek expertise and guidance from the Director and Associate Director/Post-award Administrationof Research Finance and from appropriate internal and external sources.

    • Process financial reports, invoices, accounts receivable, expenditure review and approval, re-budgets, and milestone completion.

     

    The Assistant Director/Post-award Administration is authorized to independently approve expenditures and payroll transactions; develop, approve, and sign invoices and financial reports sent to external sponsors; and make decisions on and interpret sponsor guidelines and regulations when needed. They will be responsible for letter of credit draws, cash management, and deposits. Work on policies and procedures related toResearch Finance.. Most have proven ability to independently identify and solve complex problems by working in collaboration with faculty, departmental administrators, higher administration, and sponsoring agencies. Importantly, the incumbent must be able to maintain strict confidentiality. Must have an ability to manage with independence and latitude – along with the ability to set priorities and execute one’s responsibilities with skill and effectiveness. May supervise students and/or other junior professional staff members.

    Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:

    Level I: Grant & Contract Post Award Administrator $74,000 to $92,500 Minimum of 0-3 years' professional experience in a central OSP environment. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally

     

    Level II: Assistant Director, Post Award Administration $83,680 to $104,600 Minimum of 3-5 years' professional experience in a central OSP environment. Experience should include working with multiple constituencies. Working knowledge of the industry and standards.

     

    Level III: Senior Assistant Director, Post Award Administration $92,300 to 115,400 Minimum of 5 years' professional experience in a central OSP environment, demonstrating mastery of federal regulations for managing higher education research administration.

    Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree required.

     

    Experience working with faculty/departmental administrators in an academic setting.

     

    Knowledge of Federal regulations for managing higher education research administration.

     

    Knowledge of Boston College internal administrative/financial systems preferred.

     

    Ability to manage a complex workload with multiple competing demands and intense deadline pressure.

     

    Willingness and interest in participating in professional research administration organizations.

     

    Continuing professional education as provided by professional organizations (NCURA, SRA, etc.).
