Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Facilities and Asset Management, located in Lorton, VA. Responsibilities Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP) will allow you to support the mission by managing the maintenance, repair, and operation functions for the National Capital Region (NCR). This position starts at an hourly rate of $28.73 (WG-07, Step 1) to $33.48 (WG-07, Step 5). Typical work assignments include: Acting as a general supply technician over warehouse operations; Packing, loading/unloading, and transporting equipment and supplies within warehouse locations and between facilities; Receiving, accounting for, storing, reporting on, and disposing of surplus property through redistribution, transfer, donation, sale, abandonment, or destruction; Receiving, inspecting, and unloading all incoming supplies, equipment, and furniture; and Providing minor workstation reconfiguration and adjustment support to modular and systems furniture. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. To minimally qualify for the WG-07 grade level you must meet the Screen Out Element Ability to do the work of a materials handler without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element(s), you should have experience performing the following duties: Serving as the point of contact for disposal and warehouse accounts; Operating and performing operator maintenance checks on a forklift; Coordinating and scheduling the delivery of excess property to facilities; Assisting personnel with screening and withdrawing excess property from the warehouse for reutilization; Ensuring accountable property is appropriately marked and that documentation is provided to the appropriate personnel. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. In addition to the experience described above, you will also be evaluated on the basis of your overall level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas: Ability to do the work of a materials handler without more than normal supervision: Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order); Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic); Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprints); Knowledge of Materials; and Dexterity and Safety NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Additional Information Physical Effort: Work involves the actual physical receipt, inspection, custody, and maintenance, while in storage, of personal property, as well as the shipping of this property to various disposal points. The work requires standing for prolonged periods of time and bending, kneeling, climbing, etc. Regular and recurring physical exertion, such as lifting items weighing over 50 pounds, is required when loading/unloading property for transport to storage and/or disposal facilities. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a warehouse type setting that is well lighted and ventilated and in settings that involve moderate risks and require special safety precautions. The employee is exposed to all types of weather conditions, such as rain, snow, heat, cold, dusty areas, etc., when transporting equipment, supplies, and materials to storage areas, shipment points, and disposal areas. A risk of falls when working in open dock areas exists. Steel toed shoes and hard hats are required. When handling hazardous or potentially hazardous material, protective clothing may be required.
