Hamilton College is seeking a skilled HVAC Maintenance Mechanic to join our Facilities team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across our historic and modern campus buildings. This role ensures a comfortable, energy-efficient, and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.
This is a full-time position with a starting pay rate of $31.52 and pay rate of $33.23 after 6 months.
Responsibilities

+ Works as directed by the Maintenance Mechanic Foreman, Supervisor and/or Manager of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Systems.
+ Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, air handlers, heat pumps, and exhaust systems.
+ Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to ensure optimal system performance.
+ Maintain and calibrate controls for building automation systems (BAS) to maximize energy efficiency.
+ Repair or replace motors, compressors, fans, filters, belts and other HVAC components as needed.
+ Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff, contractors, and vendors to complete projects and emergency repairs.
+ Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and college policies.
+ Maintain accurate service records and update maintenance logs.
+ Assist with seasonal HVAC transitions, such as winterizing heating systems and preparing cooling systems for summer.
+ Provide input on energy-saving initiatives and sustainability efforts related to HVAC operations.
+ May respond to emergency calls at late hours to correct problems in mechanical systems.
+ Maintain appearance of equipment and keep building work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
+ Position is expected to work a reasonable amount of overtime as required
+ Perform other duties at the discretion of management.
+ High school diploma or equivalent required.
+ A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in HVAC Field.
+ Equivalent combination of education, experience and certifications will be considered.
+ Knowledge of Air Source Heat Pumps, Geothermal Systems and/or VRF Split Systems.
+ EPA 608 Certification.
+ Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

+ Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
+ Ability to operate all power tools and hand equipment.
+ Willingness to further knowledge and expertise in field through training and course work.
+ Ability to understand and effectively follow both oral and written instructions.
+ Ability to recognize and select appropriate materials for assigned projects.
+ Ability to maintain cooperative, professional, and respectful working relationships with all employees, contractors, vendors, and business partners of the College.
+ Ability to work independently or in a team-oriented environment.
+ Problem solving and time management skills.
