    Position Summary

    Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs complex procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of disease/abnormalities. Assists physicians in the performance of breast MRI procedures.

    Accountabilities

    Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to operate MRI equipment. Selects proper technical factors based on the age, size, weight anatomical differences and general health status of patients.

    Demonstrates knowledge and/or skills related to all Breast Imaging procedures.

    Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures in easily understandable terminology and clear communication. Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to identify educational needs. Is responsible for obtaining pertinent clinical information for the Radiologist.

    Administers contrast media injections in compliance with NSF policy under the supervision of a Licensed Individual Practitioner.

    Maintains equipment and facilities in safe and clean conditions. Performs daily QC and reports any malfunction. Follows all MRI safety guidelines. Secures and maintains supplies.

    Must be competent in all Radiology informatics for the purpose of correctly ordering exams, supplies, and other data input.

    Demonstrates competency in the use of physical comfort measures and psychosocial needs when giving care to patients. Demonstrates awareness of safety standards for self and assigned area. Follows organization’s mission and values of customer service.

    Cover Radiology Technologist duties as needed.

    Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

    High school graduate/GED

    Must be able to cope with the stressful situations and handle deadlines in a demanding, fast paced medical environment.

    Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.

    Must be competent in the use of facility communication systems and equipment (e.g. phones, fax machines, RIS/PACS).

    Breast imaging technologists/Mammographers preferred and MRI technologists will be considered.

    Must be registered by the ARRT. If registry eligible, must pass registry within one year of accepting the position (see addendum).

    Must be licensed by state where required.

    Must be CPR certified

    Imaging technologists must be able to tolerate possible exposure to radiation and electrical hazards, bloodborne pathogens or bodily fluids; must be able to tolerate wearing heavy protective garments for extended period of time.

    Must be able to move, lift, or carry equipment or materials weighing up to 10 lbs. 10% of the time, and with assistance move patients up to 200 or more lbs. 40% of the time.
