ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITY Occasional assistance with patient care, such as: Turning, sitting & comforting. Independently prepares and serves a wide variety of menu items including soups, salads, vegetables, sauces, gravies, entrees, desserts, and other foods. Grills, cooks steams, bakes, and roasts a variety of foods; cuts meats; prepares and cooks a variety of items including baked goods. Cooks meals in quantities according to menu and patient census, within health code, avoids wastage, and ensures all food is maintained at appropriate temperatures per regulations. Checks temperature of all refrigerators and freezers containing food and logs results daily. Stores food per health code regulations. Informs patients of additional food items available and communicates nutritional and food service concerns to the appropriate individual, as needed. Ensures kitchen and entire dietary department area are cleaned daily. Wash all utensils and dishes used in food preparation after each meal and snack in accordance to regulations and policy. Provide necessary care of equipment. Plans and posts menu each week. Purchases groceries and supplies each week within budget upon the direction of and consultation with the supervisor. Compiles all dietary statistics, including quality assurance measurements, as assigned. A current profile card shall be maintained for each patient, indicating diet order, likes, dislikes, allergies to foods, diagnosis and instructions to be followed in the preparation and serving of food for the patient. On occasion, may be required to plan for and execute meals, baked goods, and hors d’oeuvres for special events. Understands and adheres to the agency’s Mission and policies and procedures, and advocates its philosophy. Answers telephone within three rings, identifies department and self, directs the call to the appropriate person, or assists caller. Takes messages, documenting the time, name of the caller, phone number, and message, when applicable. Communicates all necessary information to supervisor, co-workers, and others, as needed. Keeps abreast of changes and trends by attending all mandatory in-services and participating in staff meetings as designated by supervisor. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and family information. Provides a safe environment for patients, guests, visitors, and employees. Adheres to all Hospice of San Joaquin policies, and procedures, including following Hospice of San Joaquin infection control procedures and the code of ethics. Provides excellent customer service to all patients/families/caregivers, co-workers, vendors, and physicians. Carries out duties and responsibilities of the position in a manner that exemplifies excellent customer service. Consistently represents the agency to all internal and external customers with integrity and professionalism. Responsible for the appearance and cleaning of the Hospice House interior throughout. Constant alertness to needed repairs and make alerting the Hospice House Director of issues. Abide by the cleaning policies and procedures. Subject to the emergency call, on off-duty hours. Handles appliances, equipment, and cleaning chemicals in a safe manner. Responsible for the thorough cleaning of patient rooms (terminal clean), after patient discharge. Responsible for the organization of equipment, and supplies, in housekeeping closets. Responsible for the proper use, care, and maintenance of all supplies and equipment used in performing housekeeping duties. Responsible for choosing the correct cleaning agent for each job. Responsible for knowing SDS precautions while using cleaning agents. Responsible for keeping all containers labeled. Responsible for responding to potential hazardous spills. Perform laundry service daily – responsible for maintaining inventory of laundry supplies and notifying DHH of the need for supplies. Washes dishes and cleans the kitchen. Pickup and delivery services. May be asked to pick up medications, groceries, or supplies. Responsible for adhering to health and safety regulations. Cleans med room with RN supervision. Companionship or patient care assistance for patients at the request of the RN on duty. Documents any communication with the RN on duty related to patients. Adheres to all Hospice of San Joaquin policies, and procedures, including following Hospice of San Joaquin infection control procedures and the code of ethics. Additional duties as assigned.

Must possess a valid California Driver’s License Current auto insurance, reliable transportation CPR Training. (Health Requirements i.e., TB, Hepatitis, Medical)

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Vehicle – Ability, and willingness to drive own vehicle, have a valid California driver’s license, and have automobile insurance, which meets State standards. Mobility – Frequent operation of a keyboard and sitting for long periods of time; occasional standing for long periods of time, walking, pushing/pulling, bending/squatting, driving, climbing ladders or stairs, and crawling. Frequency of Lifting – Occasional lifting of 5 to 35 lbs.
