    Overview

     

    We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on **Metallurgy Technician** to perform routine metallurgical testing and analysis in addition to supporting material prep for failure and corrosion testing lab. The ideal candidate will assist in evaluating metals and materials, preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and supporting production and engineering teams with technical data.

     

    Salary: $20- $25/hour (Depending on Experience)

     

    Hours: Flexible hours, typically start time is 6:30am/7am (8 hours/day)

    Responsibilities

    + Perform routine testing Metallurgical testing (hardness, sample preparation, Ultrasonic testing) & microscopy (micro / macro examinations) Involvement in site / field testing

    + Prepare and test metal and alloy samples using standard metallurgical techniques (cutting, mounting, polishing, etching, etc.).

    + Use the standard operating procedure (SOP) to understand specifications/standards to ensure the correct test methodology is performed.

    + Operate and maintain lab equipment such as microscopes, hardness testers, spectrometers, and furnaces.

    + Record, analyze, and report test results accurately and timely.

    + Prep sample material to support failure analysis investigations.

    + Maintain calibration records and ensure lab compliance with quality and safety standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.).

    + Assist with product and process development projects, including heat treatment and corrosion testing.

    + Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and engineering teams to support manufacturing needs.

    + Participate in team-oriented discussions to learn about Metallurgical topics and follow the capability Matrix

    + Ensure proper handling and storage of samples, chemicals, and documentation.

     

    Skills / Qualifications

    Education & Experience:

    + Associate's Degree or Diploma in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.

    + 1–3 years of experience in a metallurgical laboratory or related technical role (preferred).

    + Familiarity with ASTM/ISO testing standards.

    Skills & Knowledge:

    + Desire to continue to learn more about metals, alloys, and material properties.

    + Proficiency with metallurgical lab equipment and testing procedures.

    + Good analytical, observational, and problem-solving skills.

    + Self-motivated team player with excellent organizational and communication abilities.

    + Beginner level computer skills (MS365)

    + Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.

    + Collaborate with peers on proper preparation of materials and test methodology

    + Welding knowledge would be a plus.

    Working Conditions:

    + Lab and industrial environment – exposure to dust, and machinery.

    + Use company provided PPE required (gloves, goggles, lab coat, etc.).

    + Standing, lifting, and handling materials for extended periods.
