    Sustainable Structural Engineer

    Job Summary

    We are seeking a highly skilled Sustainable Structural Engineer to lead decarbonization initiatives in building design in SEATTLE, WA OR NYC. This role focuses on integrating sustainability into structural templates, guiding cross-functional teams, and implementing innovative, low-carbon solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in structural systems, embodied carbon assessment, and sustainable construction practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Lead sustainable structural design efforts using performance-based approaches and LCA.

    + Evaluate and optimize structural systems to reduce material use, cost, carbon footprint, and construction waste.

    + Develop and implement decarbonization strategies for Scope 3 embodied carbon.

    + Integrate circular economy principles and sustainable design standards into building templates.

    + Research and specify low-carbon materials (e.g., mass timber, low-carbon concrete, recycled steel).

    + Design for climate adaptability, durability, and material reuse to enhance structural resilience.

    + Collaborate with internal teams to pilot and scale innovative low-carbon construction solutions.

    + Drive research and innovation in sustainable materials and emerging technologies.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering.

    + 7–10 years of experience in building design and construction.

    + Proven expertise in structural optimization and embodied carbon reduction.

    + Strong project and program management skills with experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.

    + Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences.

    + Experience with Scope 3 embodied carbon management and life cycle assessments

     

    Technical Proficiencies

     

    + Structural analysis and sustainable design principles.

    + Seismic, wind, and load calculations for various building types.

    + Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools and methodologies.

    + Low-carbon construction materials and innovations.

    + Digital tools for structural analysis and design.

     

    Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

     

    + Experience with sustainable design certifications and standards.

    + Familiarity with construction supply chain management and procurement.

    + Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams including architects, MEP engineers, and sustainability consultants.

    + Innovative, research-driven mindset with a passion for sustainability.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $90.00 - $96.00/hr.
