    About the Role

     

    The Technology Department’s is seeking an experienced, highly technical, and detail-oriented person to oversee the management of the agency’s employee and guest Wi-Fi services. Reporting to the manager of Network Operations, the selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring fast, secure and reliable Wi-Fi services across all Port Authority facilities.

    Responsibilities

    + Technical Expertise: Possess a strong understanding of wireless communication technologies, standards, and protocols. Design and support secure and fault-tolerant internal and external wireless networks, for both agency personnel and guests. Configure Cisco access points, wireless LAN controllers and backend authentication systems. Stay well informed of industry trends and advancements to make informed decisions and recommendations for the agency's wireless infrastructure.

    + Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of wireless network topologies and configuration.

    + Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including facility managers, to align wireless related activities with organizational goals and priorities. Communicate effectively across departments to ensure coordination and support for wireless service initiatives.

    + Risk Management: Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities associated with the delivery of wireless services, such as continuity disruptions, evolving standards, technical obsolescence or security threats. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize impact and protect organizational interests.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + A minimum of 3 years as a Wi-Fi subject matter expert.

    + 5 years of hands-on networking experience with Cisco APs and WLCs.

    + 5 years of hands-on networking experience with Cisco switches and routers.

    + Experience managing Cisco 9800 series wireless LAN controllers (iOS-XE).

    + Experience supporting both internal and external wireless access points.

    + Strong knowledge of wireless security protocols and practices.

    + Experience designing and supporting wireless guest networks using mobility anchors.

    + Experience supporting CUWN systems using Cisco Catalyst Center or Cisco Prime Infrastructure.

    + Wireless survey, design and troubleshooting experience using industry leading tools such as Ekahau + sidekick and / or AirMagnet.

    + Experience designing fault tolerant wireless networks for data, video and voice.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior leadership and external vendors.

    + Able to work autonomously or as part of a team.

    + Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

    + Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.

    + Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to wireless services.

    + Experience using Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) for RADIUS authentication and troubleshooting.

    + Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to any of the Port Authority locations.

    + Must have obtained at least one of the following wireless certifications: Certified Wireless Network Professional - CWNP (CWNA, CWAP, CWDP, CWSP), CCNA-Wireless, CCNP- Wireless or CCIE-Wireless.

    Desired Qualifications

    + Experience using spectrum analysis tools for troubleshooting

    + Familiar with various atypical antenna types, such as omni-directional bridging, patch and sector.

    + Familiarity with wireless rogue detection and mitigation using WIPS and WIDS.

    + Experience deploying and supporting wireless bridging and MESH topologies.

    + Experience with the SolarWinds network monitoring suite.

    + Ability to create diagrams using Microsoft Visio

    + Project management experience

    + Able to work on a ladder five feet off the ground.

    + CCNA or CCNP certification

     

    Selection Process
