    Position Summary

    This role is responsible for the day-to-day benefits and leave administration of the FSA. Benefit administration including but not limited to the open enrollment process for medical insurance, dental, vision as well as enrollment for new hires. In addition, education, and enrollment of employees into other employee benefits during the new hire onboarding process. Day to day responsibility also includes leave administration including short- and long-term disability, FMLA, PFL, non-paid and paid leaves in accordance with NYS and Federal law and the FSA employee handbooks. workers compensation benefits, and safety programs and unemployment claims. This role reports directly to the Benefits and Leave Manager and this department reports to the Human Resource Director.

     

    Expected Hours of Work

     

    This is a full time, exempt salaried position with a minimum requirement of 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend work required during peak periods and as job duties require. Additional hours are required at the start of school in August and January along with any special events held throughout the course of the year. Weekends and evenings are required during peak periods or as needed to support open enrollment efforts.

    Essential Functions

    • Day to day administration of all benefits programs offered to employees.

    • Assists hands on with day-to-day processing of benefits and leaves, ensures proper procedures and policies are followed related to the processing of disability, FMLA, PFL and workers’ compensation claims, leave requests, and ADA accommodations.

    • Assists with administration of the pensions plans (403b) and enrollment of participants

    • Processes paperwork in an accurate and timely manner

    • Assists with enrollment of participants in the retiree medical plans

    • Maintains accessibility and good relationships with all FSA employees and retirees as well as vendors

    • Communicates with the Payroll Administrators and Manager to ensure applicable accruals are applied to payroll processes for any applicable leave administration

    • Responsible for implementing of information and utilization of the leave module in our HRIS system, ensures process efficiencies and procedures are being utilized effectively for management of leaves

    • Maintains professional relationships with outside agencies and vendors

    • Ensures proper processing for Workers Compensation and 3rd Party Sick Pay

    • Processes accident and incident reports to the Workers Compensation carrier.

    • Completes follow ups with employees related to workers’ compensation claims.

    • Completes wage information for Workers Compensation and 3rd Party Sick Pay.

    • Maintains OSHA log and compliance with OSHA and all safety related requirements regarding injury reporting.

    • Serves on the Safety Committee.

    • Initiates safety recommendations to minimize Workers Compensation claims.

    • Assists with new hire paperwork and general HR related (non-benefit) projects as needed

    Education and Training

    • Education: Bachelor's degree (four year college or technical school) or equivalent experience required

    • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, word, and general computer knowledge

    • Other requirements: Self-starter, capable of working with others to insure satisfactory results, detail-oriented, capable of handling multiple claims, able to direct the investigation of serious accidents and injuries

    Desired Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in HR specifically including benefits administration, employee relations, unemployment claims, workers compensation, FMLA, ADA, labor law, and regulations, etc.

    • Must have experience handling Workers Compensation Claims/Accident Reporting

    • Good computer skills including high proficiency in excel and knowledge of system integrations.

    • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Experience in union environment preferred.

    • Familiar with UKG preferred or other HRIS systems beneficial.

     

    Work Environment

     

    This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopies, phones, filing cabinets, fax machines etc.

     

    Physical and Mental Demands

     

    • Good visual acuity for reading reports, computer work, etc.

    • Ability to lift, bend, reach, and any other physical demands of the position.

    • Ability to walk and stand for up to 8 hours per day

     

    Licensure/Certification

     

    SHRM Certificate preferred.
