Job Title: Senior Buyer
Job Description
The Senior Buyer is responsible for procuring products, parts, supplies, and services from both predetermined and newly selected sources in the most economically advantageous manner for the company. The role involves weighing vendor cost, quality, and delivery, and assisting in new product activity as it relates to the Purchasing department.
Responsibilities
+ Negotiate to optimize vendor capabilities in areas of price, quality, and lead time.
+ Establish purchase agreements for production parts to be replenished through various Lean procurement systems.
+ Lead the selection of new items and suppliers as needed during the product development cycle.
+ Coordinate communications with R&D and Product Engineering personnel by participating in solidifying supplier's quotes and supply agreements for new items.
+ Coordinate ordering and expediting of prototype components for analysis in the Alpha and Beta phases of product development.
+ Solicit quotations and supply agreements for new items intended for use in production.
+ Coordinate supplier visits, ISO audits, and evaluations in assigned commodity groups for all potential new suppliers.
+ Provide information required for the completion of purchased parts Item Masters.
+ Assist in product activity as it relates to the purchasing function; coordinate communication between Purchasing and R&D for new products.
+ Complete initial and subsequent supplier evaluation reports.
+ Assure quality and on-time delivery of parts, products, supplies, and services purchased.
+ Expedite production parts when extraordinary situations arise.
+ Meet regularly with salespeople and visit suppliers; communicate regularly with vendors.
+ Evaluate sourcing opportunities and cost savings in best cost countries.
+ Work with sourcing teams to move to new alliance suppliers.
+ Keep abreast of pricing and availability trends and recommend actions to ensure uninterrupted flow of materials.
+ Work with accounting on PO and invoice discrepancies.
+ Coordinate product obsolescence activities with suppliers and production.
+ Process special equipment requests approved by engineering.
+ Process engineering change requests released from engineering.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 5 years purchasing experience with progressively increased responsibilities, preferably in a high-volume manufacturing or electro-mechanical assembly environment.
+ Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
+ Computer proficiency in a Windows environment, preferably with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
+ Extremely strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ NAPM or APICS certification or evidence of progress toward certification is preferred.
+ International purchasing experience is preferred.
+ Knowledge of Oracle is a plus.
+ BS in a Supply Chain and Operations Field, BA equivalent, certification, or relevant work experience.
+ 5+ years of material buying and planning in a manufacturing setting.
+ Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
+ Experience with MRP / ERP systems.
+ Experience in supply chain management and inventory control.
+ Demonstrated negotiation skills.
+ Proficiency in MS Office products (especially Word, Excel, Visio, and Project).
+ Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
Work Environment
Office environment with hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with flexibility for the right candidate. The dress code is business casual.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $43.00/hr.
