    THE POSITION

    Are you a skilled mechanic with a passion for teaching and helping others? Do you have a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of inmates? The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to lead an inmate work crew and instruct them in the field of automotive mechanics.     DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    As a Corrections Automotive Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will play a crucial role in the rehabilitation and vocational training of inmates. By providing on-the-job training and shop instruction, you will educate inmates in the field of automotive mechanics and prepare them for potential job opportunities upon release. Your responsibilities will include instructing inmates on proper repair and maintenance techniques for motorized vehicles, as well as rebuilding and replacing components of equipment such as cars, trucks, and farm equipment. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining order and discipline during work assignments, documenting worker attendance and performance, and keeping tracking of important records such as safety training, evaluations, and payroll.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    + Full-time employment, 40 hour work week

    + Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

    + Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

    + This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

    + Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,846.00 (before taxes).

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    + Four years of experience in the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and replacement of various components and systems used in automobiles, trucks, or construction or heavy equipment;or

    + Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the automotive mechanic trade;or

    + An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the automotive mechanic trade.

    Special Requirements:

    + You must possess an active Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Technician Certificate issued by an approved provider.

    + You must possess an active motor vehicle license which is not under suspension.

    Other Requirements:

    + Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
